When you're craving food at 2 AM in Marietta, Georgia, probably the first place you think about if you live here is Waffle House. Waffle House has multiple locations in Marietta and throughout metro Atlanta, so wherever you are, you're probably near one. Best known for eggs, grits, sausage, hasbrowns, and, of course, waffles, you can also get burgers, steaks, and pork chops. It's not calorie-conscious or particularly health-conscious, but you can get wholewheat pancakes now, and they do have sugarfree syrup that is very good. The food is hot, usually good (quality varies from one Waffle House to another,) and very inexpensive. Most food choices are between $3 and $7, and if you're really hungry you can get the All Star breakfast for $5.99-$6.99 and totally stuff yourself. The coffee is ALWAYS good. They're open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Then there's Huddle House, a competitor to Waffle House. It has multiple lcations too, and is not that dissimilar to Waffle House. Each has its fans, but Waffle, I believe is a bit more popular.

For more upscale tastes, there's The Marietta Diner. The Marietta Diner has a much wider variety of dinner dishes, so if it's late but you don't want breakfast, you can get many different pasta, chicken, and beef dishes for around $15-$20. You can also get breakfast dishes for $5-$10, but the pasta is probably the most popular menu section at the Diner. The last few times I've gotten breakfast here, the grits have been quite watery. (Many people in the South judge breakfast by the quality of the grits and the coffee. ) The diner is located at 306 Cobb Parkway, Marietta.

There's also an IHOP on Cobb Parkway that is open 24 hours. It's the International House of Pancakes, so, naturally, the best thing you can get here is one of the many varieties of pancakes. I like the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity pancakes best. Expect to spend about $8-$12. The 24-hour IHOP is at 179 Cobb Pkwy S.

My recommendation? Find a Waffle House you like. It's not fancy, but it's the best food for the price, and the possibilities for encountering interesting people and entertaining situations is pretty high as well.
