Jenny Olabode
For most African Americans, having long hair is an ultimate desire. Yet, some people give up on growing their natural hair and simply result to wearing wigs and weaves. Others, trying to manage their hair from home, resort to blow drying, curling, straightening, and perming their hair without having the slightest clue how to. This only causes hair to become damaged and not grow. Well, if you are an African American and either suffer from hair loss and thinning hair or want your hair to grow, here are some steps that you can take to grow longer hair. These tips include ingredients to avoid in your hair care prdducts, vitamins to take, and hair growth products to use. Trust me, with a vitamins, diet, good products, and proper styling techniques, your black hair can grow long at a faster rate than what you consider to be normal.

Step 1: Take Vitamins: 3 Best Vitamins to Grow Long African American Hair.

Take a B-complex Vitamin: Vitamins function as catalysts for reactions within the body, controlling the processes of tissue synthesis and aiding in the protection of cells' plasma membranes. Thus, vitamins can be a vital component to growing longer hair. Buy a B-complex vitamin, which consists of eight different vitamins, specifically thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), piroxidine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12), and biotin. All of these vitamins, especially Biotin and Pantothenic Acid, will help your hair to grow faster.

Take Vitamin C: Vitamin C is responsible for the development of healthy collagen, which is necessary to hold body tissues together. A vitamin C deficiency can cause split ends and hair breakage, yet this is easily reversible by increasing your normal vitamin C intake levels. If you do not want to take vitamin C, eat foods such as fresh peppers, citrus fruits, melons, berries, potatoes, tomatoes, and dark green leafy vegetables. All are rich in vitamin C.

Take Vitamin E: In order for your hair to grow, your scalp will need to be in top condition. Vitamin E is necessary to provide good blood circulation to the scalp and creates the perfect condition for healthy hair.

Here are some other goods vitamins that you may want to try: Beta-Carotene, Magnesium, Sulfur, Zinc, Silica, and Flaxseed oil. You do not need to take them all to meet your hair growth goals or to combat hair loss. Many multivitamins have these minerals.

Step 2: Only Use All Natural Hair Care Products. Growing long African American Hair Fast requires Quality Hair Care Products with natural oils.

African American hair tends to be dry and brittle, to combat this, keep your hair moisturized at least 2 to 3 times per day. Stop using drugstore shampoos that contain harmful chemicals. If you want to grow your hair fast, try Beauty 4 Ashes Super Hair Growth system, it contains a super growth shampoo and conditioner that has rosemary, castor, sage, and all the vitamins I mentioned above. They manufacture hair growth products specifically for African American and Ethnic Hair. wwwdiscoverb4acom. If you do not like using all natural hair care products, then make sure your products do not contain any of the following:

Bad Ingredients for African American Hair Growth: Methyl, Propyl, Butyl, and Ethyl Paraben
Used to extend the shelf life of products and have been in samples of human breast tumour tissues.

Bad Ingredients for African American Hair Growth: Petrolatum and Mineral Oil
Mineral oil actually limits the scalp's ability to breathe by coating the hair with a sticky, greasy film; ultimately, this will slow your hair growth.

Bad Ingredients for African American Hair Growth: PEGs (PolyEthylene Glycol) and Propylene Glycol
PEGs are used to thicken products and are also used to make antifreeze and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes, and boats; to make polyester compounds; and as solvents in the paint and plastics industries. You want to limit your exposure to products with these ingredients. Although is has not been proven 100% accurate, many doctors agree that exposure to excess amounts of polyethylene glycol can damage the kidneys, heart, and nervous system.

Bad Ingredient for African American Hair Growth:
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Synthetic Colors, DEA, MEA, TEA (diethanolamine, monoethanolamine, and triethanolmine), Isopropyl Alcohol. Sulfates, DEA, TEA, Alcohols, and Colors, create skin and scalp irritation. They are take away oils from the scalp and hair required for Black hair to grow. These ingredients are primarily found in shampoos because they were created to remove oil and build up from individuals with oily scalps and hair that produces ample amount of natural oil, such individuals with Caucasian and European hair textures. However, black hair needs the exact opposite.

Step 3: Start drinking Spring Water for African American Hair Growth

Although, tap water is decent, your body and hair can grow faster if you switch to spring water. Spring Water contains several vitamins and minerals that aid in your hair growth like zinc, which is responsible for cell production, tissue growth and repair, and the maintenance of the oil-secreting glands of the scalp.

Following these steps and taking hair growth stimulating vitamins will enable you to grow longer hair faster. Understand that African American hair growth is determined by several factors; and vitamins alone will not cause your hair to grow to the floor. If you really desire longer hair, make sure that you take your vitamins, eat healthy, use good hair care products and styling tips, and drink water.

Great Article! I'm growing my natural hair and I love it.

The only vitamin I have used that helped me tremendously was the Nzuri Elixer. It has all the b vitamns and the C vitamin you mentioned. What I love about it is I drink an oz in the a.m. and I'm set for the day.

It grew my hair so long that people think I'm wearing a weave. It gets a little annoying to grow your hair only for folks to assume it's not your hair. I thought that would be a compliment but it is actually quiet annoying.

The only problem with Nzuri Elixer you can only get it through salons because it is salon exclusive. I found them on facebook and luckily they have distributors in Houston.

You are 100 percent right on the ability of vitamins to grow your hair. I will stand behind that truth.

KTP is an idiot. Everyone comes from a warm, sub-tropical climate.

I didn't see any mention of Shea Butter in the articles on this site. I want to use my products in proper order. So after I deep condition (I use LeKair Hotoil Treatment) I'm going to apply my Infusium 23 but what's next? Do I use the shea butter and then seal it with an oil like coconut oil? Or does shea butter act as a sealer. Please let me know. Thank you in advance. Love the article!

I must say the comments made by Ktp was utter nonsense. Not everything in the article was agreeable, yet excellent points were made.

    continued from below:
Bottom line, Black Women have a lot of pressure put on us ,to grow our hair long lengths, that we simply were not meant to have it grow. We need to keep in mind that even with the best hair care, MOST OF US are NOT meant to have hair as long as other racial groups. EITHER WAY........WE ARE GORGEOUS WITH ANY LENGTH AND TEXTURE OF HAIR. We need to stop pressuring ourselves and stop letting other races of people, define what is beautiful for us.

This was a great an informative article, but I think that it is important for Black people from any country (America or other countries) to realize that even with the best hair care and growth, our people originally come from a very warm, sub-tropical climate that does not warrant that we have very long hair. Their seems to be a lot of pressure put on the ones of us who don't have, very long hair, to grow (and even change the texture) long hair, when historically, we are descendants of the first people on earth who came from a region of ther earth, where people biologically needed darker skin and had less of a need for longer hair. The other, non-black people of color in the world, are descendents of people that migrated through colder climates to get to where they live today. This is just simple human migration and explains why people, who's ancestors came from cold climates (like Europe) have longer, straighter hair. Their bodies adapted to the cold climates. Bottom line, Black Women

This was very helpful and thank you, but in the very first paragraph, it is sort of irrelevant to say "This only causes hair to become damaged and not grow." I say this because, hair will always grow, will it not? You might want to change that too "break off" which gives the apperance that it's not growing. Othar than that, I'm going to use the advice you gave and I really appreciate this!
