People come from neighboring cities such as Richmond, Virginia Beach, Newport, Hampton and many others just to watch the spectacular events light up the night sky and fill their day with joy and memories.
Displayed at Waterside Dr, Town Point Park every 4th of July, this incredible event is nothing short than spectacular. This patriotically fun filled celebration is held each year on July 4th at the Norfolk waterfront. Families, friends, and new arrivals can celebrate with picnics, socializing, and rides provided by the city. The U.S. Continental Army Band fills the air with well rehearsed and composed patriotic music. Town Point Park will also feature a dazzling fireworks show starting at 9:30pm. The hours for the festivities and fireworks will be Wed, July 4th, 2007 5pm - 10pm, and admission is of course, free.
This years' Fourth of July will be including the traditional foods such as plump hot dogs, juicy hamburgers, salivating barbecues, corn on the cob dripping with butter, and ripe watermelons. Be apart of the "Backyard Olympics" and compete in four main events: The Marshmallow Contest, Relay races, Frisbee Tosses, and various lawn challenges. Gigantic rides for both the young and older will be found through out the area and an inflatable jungle will be present so people can bounce about as they celebrate their Fourth of July. Show off your singing or dare another to try their musical prowess to a patriotic tune at the Karaoke Station. Bear witness to the annually held Fourth of July Navy Reenlistment Ceremony, which will be followed by the traditional performance from the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Band.
With so much to do and what seems too short of a day, a single person or a whole group of families will be sure to have a fun filled joyous day as they celebrate their independence. People love to watch the fireworks offered here in Norfolk and love the delightful aromas that fill the air in which Fourth of July brings about. Ships will be docked at the piers and the militaries finest will be walking about on land and ship. Who knows, perhaps their will be a tour or two on some of these magnificent ships that protect and remind us that we are American, and we are proud to show it! Upcoming, current, and past events can be seen on the official Virginia Events website at www.festeventsva.org.
