Best 4th of July Movie Picks for the Kids

Faith Dosier
It's the Fourth of July and what are you going to do with the kids besides fireworks and feeding them tasty BBQ? Well for starters you could get their 4th of July movie pack ready. There are tons of great movies out there for kids and here a few of my favorites all by R.L Stine the creator of the Goosebumps books. You know nothing goes better with booming fireworks than spooky tales created just for the kids and they're fun for the parents to watch too. The fact the fireworks are going off intermittently throughout the holiday weekend really helps increase the spooky, creepy factor.

Goosebumps: It Came from Beneath the Sink, one of my son's absolute favorites because the Character Kat gets a little bored around the house and what does she do? Well of course she does what any kid does and begins to explore around the house and finds a very, very strange sponge underneath the sink and that sponge sure does bring some trouble with it. I'd love to tell you more but no way you'll have to see for yourself (smile).

Goosebumps: Cry of the Cat. My little boy thinks this one is a great one and he's a cat lover too. Now I recommend this one for kids under six because in this one Alison accidently runs over a cat with her bike but it gets up and runs away totally unharmed and the strange thing is that this episode keeps repeating its self over and over again just like the movie Groundhog day. Now if that isn't strange I don't know what is.

The Nightmare Room: Scareful What You Wish For. This is a little longer than the two previous Goosebumps movies, this one goes a full 65 minutes and the DVD has an interactive game you can play by remote. The boys will love this since its about going to the carnival and wishing. The 4th of July can be a little loud and scary depending on how old your child is or even a little boring if you're at home entertaining and doing your own fireworks so this is perfect for the movie room and all the kids can gather around and enjoy this and have some great kids times together while the adults do their thing.

The 4th of July is about family and fireworks and independence of course but sometimes the kids would rather enjoy and old fashioned movie night instead of the hustle and bustle of long car rides and crowds. So if you're planning on staying away from the festival this year let the kids celebrate their independence with R.L. Stien and I bet you'll also create some new readers who'll want to read all Stein's books too. Happy Independence Day!
