Best 5 Maternity Halloween Costumes

Easy to Make Maternity Halloween Costumes

Catherine Spencer
It's Halloween; you're pregnant and have been invited to a Halloween party. What are you going to wear for a Halloween costume? Here are my top 5 maternity Halloween costumes that are fun, easy and affordable to make.

My favorite is to dress up as a Pregnant Old Woman. Find an "old lady" dress at the thrift store, the gaudier the better. Wear a white wig or put baby powder in your hair to make it look gray. This works well with dark hair. Look for some "orthopedic-looking" sensible shoes and wear knee high nylons, with one of them in a roll at your ankle. Put some "rouge" on your cheeks and some bright red lipstick on your lips. Accessorize with a beaded necklace and earrings. Wear a goofy hat, maybe with an artificial flower stuck to it. To complete the Pregnant Old Woman costume walk with a cane and carry an ugly purse. Have a pregnancy test stick in your purse that you can pull out and ask, in a feeble voice, "What is this?" "What happened to me?" Your husband can go as your dirty old man.

If you're not afraid to show some skin, go to the Halloween party as a Hula Dancer. Wear a grass skirt worn under your baby belly. For the top wear a bathing suit top if you have one available that looks appropriate. Or go to www.CenturyNovelty.com or www.DancewearSolution.com for a coconut top. Put an artificial tropical flower behind your ear for an exotic look and you're ready to dance the night away!

This Skeleton X-Ray Costume puts a new spin on a classic Halloween costume. Take a black sweatshirt, sweatpants, black gloves and paint on your bones. Insert a sheet of plastic between the front and back of the clothing so the paint doesn't bleed through. On the belly area of the sweatshirt, paint on the bones of your baby all curled up. Use glow-in-the-dark white paint. Sew or pin a ribbon bow to the "head" of your baby in the x-ray. If you know the gender of your baby-to-be use either a pink or blue ribbon. Haven't found out what you're having? Make your bow using a strand of each color tied together.

If you've ever lived in farm country you know what the expression, "a roll in the hay" means. Being pregnant adds a great touch to this Roll in the Hay Costume! You'll want to look like a country farm girl. Wear a checkered shirt. If you're shy, keep it buttoned up over your baby belly. If you're not shy, tie the shirt in a knot above your belly! Put on a pair of well-worn jeans (shorts or long, depending on your weather). Braid your hair if it's long or put it up in pigtails with big bows tied on. To finish off this maternity Halloween costume just stick some bits of straw in your hair, pockets, wherever it'll stay!

This last maternity Halloween costume is a silly pun...I mean, one. Just for all of you girls out there who are "knocked up" this Halloween. Cut a hole in a box (make sure it's large enough for your head to fit though) and paint it to resemble a door. Just under your chin, up high on the box, glue or tape on a handwritten sign that says, "Knock Here". Get it?! Make this Knocked Up Costume and it'll make everyone laugh.

Have fun making and wearing these top 5 maternity Halloween costumes!
