Best 5 Tour De France DVDs

Meg G.
I spent a little over six weeks in France during the summer of 2002. I vacationed in the French Alps and pretty much the only thing on local TV during the days was the Tour de France. I never really thought much of the tour until that summer, even though it is an American who holds most of the important Tour de France records. The Tour is very exciting, and when I got back to the states I realized the following summer that coverage of the Tour de France was minimal, at best. If you would like to really see the Tour de France in action, you need to buy DVDs. I am going to introduce you to several of the best Tour de France DVDs.

Tour de France DVD #1: 2008 Tour de France DVD 12 Hour from World Cycling Productions

World Cycling Productions has a great line of DVDs which cover cycling events from all over the world. The 12 hour 2008 Tour de France DVD is great because it offers you more value for the money. The four hour DVD cost $29.95 on sale, whilst the 12 hour DVD is only $10 more. However, if the sale price goes away, be prepared to shell out about $90 for this DVD set.

You can purchase the 2008 Tour de France DVD 12 Hour from World Cycling Productions here.

Tour de France DVD #2: Legends of the Tour De France: Lance Armstrong

What red-blooded American doesn't love Lance Armstrong? He's a testicular cancer survivor who beat not only the odds of survival, but went on to win seven consecutive Tour de France titles. He was present in the 2002 Tour de France that I watched while in France. I was always rooting for him, while the French family I stayed with was hoping someone from France would actually win.

If you love Lance Armstrong, you need to purchase the Legends of the Tour de France: Lance Armstrong. I found it online through an Australian company for less than $25. Click here for more information and to order online. I have found it increasingly difficult to find Tour de France DVDs at American stores. However, the wonderful thing about the Internet is that you can order what you want from anywhere in the world and have it within a few days.

Tour de France DVD #3: Tour de France 2007 The Tour Rediscovered

The year 2007 marked an important milestone for the Tour: Lance Armstrong was not competing. If you love cycling and love suspense, this is definitely a DVD to check out.

This DVD is a bit pricey. On Amazon.com this DVD runs for $89.95 - but comes with free shipping. It may be pricey, but if you are an avid cycling fan, this is not a DVD to miss. Click here for more information and to order online.

Tour de France DVD #4: Big Six-Lance Armstrong's Greatest Moments of The Tour de France

Another great Tour de France DVD available on Amazon.com for an affordable price is Big Six - Lance Armstrong's Greatest Moments of the Tour de France. This is a collector's DVD which shows highlights of Lance's best moments on the Tour de France. It's a must-have for Lance Armstrong fanatics.

Tour de France DVD #5: The Tour Baby

The Tour Baby is a DVD of one man's journey to follow the Tour de France. Reviews on Amazon were mixed - one person loved the DVD, and the other said that the journalist who shot the DVD interjected himself in to the video too much. However, this is a unique way to watch the Tour. If you are a die-hard Tour fan, seeing the Tour from many different views is interesting. It might also show you how watching the Tour could be if you ever went to France to follow it yourself.

The Tour de France is far from as popular in the United States as it is in France. In France during the tour, it's all you hear about - kind of like March Madness in the United States. However, several avid cyclists and Tour de France fans follow the Tour annually. If you are one of those people who love the tour, check out these DVDs. You won't be disappointed.
