Best Airplane Flight Beauty Tips to Keep You Fresh from Take Off to Landing

Sheri Fresonke Harper
Flights can be long, temperatures vary, space tight and facilities overused. How do you survive this tin can atmosphere and still look good when you get off the plane or soon after? These beauty tips should help.

Best Airplane Flight Beauty Tip #1 Avoid Eating Spicy Foods

It's very difficult to know beforehand whether you're going to be on a really warm, normal or too cold flight, but chances are likely that you may well sweat. Avoiding foods that add to your body scent like onion and garlic will help you smell better when you get off the plane. Using a good deodorant can also help.

Best Airplane Flight Beauty Tip #2 Bring a Wash Up Kit and Use it Before Landing

Using a readily available wash up kit can be easier said than done. Sometimes the bathrooms on airplanes are too crowded to use. The same readily available wash up kit will do the job post landing, too. Include in your wash up kit the following:

Small individually wrapped face towels or toilettes including those formulated to remove makeup

Toothbrush, toothpaste, and optionally chewing gum if you have to wait

Lipstick and lip gloss for dry lips

Nasal saline solution for dry nose and handkerchiefs

Contact case, cleaner and wetting solution

Change of clothing including warm socks and blanket or coat

Hair brush or comb

Face lotion and makeup

Small mirror

Best Airplane Flight Beauty Tip #3 Change Your Clothing

If the local environment when you land differs from takeoff, layer your clothing or bring a change of clothing to help yourself out. Once I left 50F Seattle for 105F Boston and I headed straight to the bathroom and removed clothing. Make sure your carryon bag will store your jacket, wash up kit, and change of clothing. Changing from casual beach wear to business wear can make all the difference when presenting yourself in good light.

Best Airplane Flight Beauty Tip #4 Ensure You Get Some Rest

Before you leave, you may want to consider asking your doctor for a prescription to help you sleep on the airline. I find myself jangled and unable to sleep many times and have used a prescription with good results. Some sleep is better than none. Avoid caffeinated products to ensure you rest well.

Best Airplane Flight BeautyTip #5 Move

Whether you're on a short flight or not, moving on the airplane helps promote circulation. Avoid swollen ankles and knees by watching your salt intake, drinking lots of water, and getting up and walking down the aisle. Sometimes you have room to stretch near the bathrooms or in the bathrooms. Doing foot, neck and hand circles will keep your blood moving.

And last of all, smile. There's nothing that makes you look better than a smile on your face. After all, you're where you want to be? Right?

Great tips. I do all the wrong things when I travel. I eat fast food and drink coffee. But I always bring water and a toothbrush.
