Alabama has plenty of state parks that will get you access to all the water fun for a nominal charge. One of the most popular Alabama state parks is Lakepoint State Park near Eufaula, Alabama. Lakepoint is a 1,220 acre park that surrounds Lake Eufaula. The Lakepoint Resort Lodge has a beautiful scenery that is located on the lake and encircled by statuesque woods. The lodge features 101 guest rooms with its own private balcony and is furnished with heating and air conditioning , telephone and TV. The lodge has a convention center with a game room, pool, restaurant and bar and grille. Lake Eufaula offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing, The Lakepoint State Park has an eighteen hole golf course and a pro shop.
Wind Creek is located in Alexander City, Alabama. Wind Creek is 1,445 acres on the shores of scenic Lake Martin. There are plenty of secluded places for families to enjoy quiet picnics and swimming, There is also a man-made beach complete with sand. The beach area also includes a changing room and public bathrooms. There is a small park across from the beach. Wind Creek also provides plenty of hiking trails to enjoy as well. Wind Creek is the largest state-operated campground in the United States. There are 626 sites, Some of these sites are accessible to water so visitors can enjoy the water from their campsites. There is also a marina and camp store on the park.
Staying at Wind Creek allows visitors to really enjoy Lake Martin. Lake Martin is my personal favorite lake in Alabama. It is a beautiful lake with lots of great islands to dock at and swim or even eat a picnic lunch. The lake is bordered by lovely homes and filled with friendly people. Towards the center of the lake is a hot spot for locals called Chimney Rock. People gather here to watch people jump off one of three cliffs. The shortest cliff is called Chicken Rock and is very popular with younger children. The middle unnamed rock is the most popular. The highest rock is called Chimney Rock. One of the oldest superstitions in the area is that when you jump off Chimney Rock, you have to be careful to avoid man-eating catfish. While this is a gross exaggeration, people have seen man sized fish in this area.
A small but very popular state park is Florala State Park. Florala State Park is located in Florala, Alabama on the border between Florida and Alabama. This forty acre park is located on Lake Johnson, considered to be the cleanest lake in the state of Alabama. This lake allows for fishing, swimming, and boating activities. Florala State Park has twenty eight available camping sites.
While on the lake it is important to remember a few things. Number one is water safety. Unfortunately , many places on the lake lack lifeguards so it is important to keep safety in mind. Also make sure to prepare for the sun and heat. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Boating safety is also very important. Alabama Marina Patrols are in full force on the lake and will stop and ticket for breaking the law. But even more important than worrying about a ticket is remembering that your life could be at stake. If you keep safety in fun, Alabama's lakes will provide you with an memorable time!
