Best Albums of 2009

Sebastian Walker
#1 Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
An instant classic. If you are already a Grizzly Bear fan you will find this is their best album yet. Strong, complex harmonies mixed with amazing melodies that you can't help from listening to over and over.

#2 Clark - Totems Flare
This album really excited the underground electronic scene. Some may feel that it's been several years since any masterpieces have arisen from the electronic genre but this is a true masterpiece for any IDM lover.

#3 Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
This one is on the top of everyone's list. Animal Collective really found the sound they have been looking for and released one of their greatest albums thus far.

#4 Russian Circles - Geneva
I was a big time fan of Circles' album 'Enter' and unfortunately 'Station' didn't do it for me. But this time around they have produced an excellent album and a big release for the post-metal genre.

#5 Portugal, The Man - Satanic Satanist
I felt like Portugal somewhat lacked on 'Censored Colors' but with this release you can feel the time and effort that was put into it. Really a great album all around, they have seemed to consolidate their sound and bring it on strong.

#6 The Mars Volta - Octahedron
Once again, I feel like this album was a rebound to their lame 'Bedlam in Goliath'. In this album they go back to the sound of their original albums more by slowing down their songs and making them more vocal/acoustic themed. Although the greatness 'Frances the Mute' will never be reproduced, TMV had a nice attempt.

#7 Califone - All of My Friends are Funeral Singers
If you are already a Califone fan you will love this album. They bring back the same harmonies and complex melodies found in 'Roots & Crowns'. Released in October, this album somewhat slipped under my radar.

#8 Atlas Sound - Logos
Beautifully done album by Bradford James Cox following his debut album 'Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel.'

#9 Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue
A warm album influenced by Boards of Canada and Caribou, and others as far back as Future Sound of London. This album covers several themes and emotions and all done extremely well.

#10 Jega - Variance
Another amazing release in the IDM genre. Jega's re-worked and re-mastered album that leaked back in 2003.
