I tore the phone out of my dog's mouth and realized that it was time that I treated myself to a cool phone. I work in Information Technology so I convinced myself that it was really a job requirement to have a smart phone. I searched, read reviews and finally decided on the T-mobile G1 with Android.
One of my favorite features of this phone is the ability to download Android Applications. Here are my favorite, free Android Apps for the T-mobile G1 smart phone.
ShopSavvy - This Android application allows me to scan any barcode so that I can comparison shop. It will show me the item I wish to buy and list places I can buy it locally and on the web. I have found this very handy when buying music CDs as it will show me where I can get previously used CDs for cheap. ShopSavvy has convinced me that the T-mobile G1 will actually pay for itself with the money I will save through comparison shopping. There have been a few times where it cannot identify a product or inaccurately identifies it but the majority of the time it can accurately displays the item and gives me at least three other places to purchase it.
Astrid - This Android application is a task management tool that allows me to enter to-do lists, set timeframes for tasks, and even set up reminders at the intervals that I choose. This was extremely handy when it came to my most dreaded task, sending out thank you letters. I configured it to bug me every day until I had all of the cards sent out. I was able to mark the progress I had made and hit snooze when I knew I would not work on them for awhile.
The Weather Channel - I love this Android Application because I do not have windows in my office. This lets me know what is going on outside and any other place that I choose. I program the location and The Weather Channel app will tell me what the weather is now and break it down to hourly, 36 hour, and 10 day forecasts.
Mahjongg - What is a smart phone without a cool game? This Android App allows me to play the classic game of Mahjongg anytime. It is perfect for boring train rides, your children's events, or anytime you need to look important.
I will continue to download Android Apps from the Market in my T-mobile G1 phone as long as they are free. And I am definitely keeping this phone out of my dog's reach!
