Best Atlanta Tapas Restaurants

Heather Tuggle
I like my portions small and the flavor big - that is why I love visiting tapas restaurants in the Atlanta area. Tapas, Spanish for appetizers, consists of small plates that are meant to be split amongst the table. They may be something as simple as olives and cheese, or they may be more elaborate, such as empanadas.

Noche, located in the Virginia-Highlands, is great to hit up after work. The restaurant is always crawling with young professionals (a definite plus if you are single). I would recommend sitting outside and people watching as you enjoy your Latin-inspired cuisine.

You should definitely try the Blue Cornmeal Crusted Fried Green Tomatoes. There is nothing like taking a Southern classic and adding a little twist. The tomatoes are cooked perfectly and are complimented by the heavenly Manchego cheese.

I would also strongly recommend the Grilled Skirt Steak with tobacco onions. Make sure everyone orders their own - this is one that you will not want to share.

Pura Vida, once ranked Atlanta's Best Restaurant of the Year, is another tapas spot that can't be missed. This restaurant is located on North Highland Avenue. The food here is inspired by different ingredients from Latin America and Spain. As you walk through the restaurant, I would recommend taking a look at the local artists' work on the walls.

If you enjoy ceviche, you can't go wrong here. I don't even like seafood and I thought the Tuna ceviche was great. Pura Vida has something for everything; from potatoes and steak to duck or goat, you will find something on the menu that is appealing.

I would recommend saving room for dessert. They have a great chocolate flan with ancho chilies in the sauce.

If the social scene is more of your thing, you should check out Loca Luna. This restaurant, which has recently moved from Peachtree Street to Amsterdam Avenue, attracts a diverse crowd of people. They offer live music and dancing (Salsa, Samba, and Merengue).

If you are thirsty, you will find something to quench your thirst here. Loca Luna offers a variety of signature cocktails - be sure to try the flavored mojitos.
