I certainly had my share of owning countless automobiles during my lifetime including sports cars, economical compact cars, and even luxuries cars. When I turned eighteen years of age, my first car was a bright green Pontiac Firebird; however, four years later, I had engine problems. The valves could be heard miles away. Additionally, I had to repair the wheel barrens, and because of the positive traction on the rear wheels, when I applied the brakes on a rainy day, the entire car would spin around. Three years later, I decided to sell it.
I decided to purchase another sports car, but this time, a high-end sports car,a dark metallic blue 1973 Corvette. Although the ride was not smooth, I was impressed with the handling and performance until six months later after purchase, I encountered problem with the universal joint. Fortunately, the warranty took care of the repair cost. I had other repairs but they were routine wear and tear such as, replacing the fuel pump, and alternator. Other than those minor repairs, I rate this car satisfactory in comparison with my first automobile. I thought it was time to live more practical considering the price of gasoline per gallon (this was during the early seventies).
So I purchased my third car, 1979, lemon yellow convertible Volkswagon Beetle. It was cute, but too slow in comparison with my previous automobiles; moreover, when I took those long trips, big rigs trucks would nearly blow me off the interstates. So, I decided to return to the sports car scene. I wanted an automobile that would give me good gas mileage and yet sporty.
1980, I purchased an 80 black BMW (320i). This car was the bomb. It would reach 75 miles in seconds and the rack and pinion made driving most pleasurable. I even drove it cross country without any difficulties Unfortunately I had an accident and totaled it.
I was addicted to driving sports cars, and for that reason, after losing the BMW; I decided to purchase a brand new 1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It was fast. handled well on the road, but after owning it for almost a year; I experienced problems with the power steering pump. Luckily the dealer decided to repair it without transferring the repair cost to me. Then one day while driving on one of the busiest freeways in Southern California, the entire clutch fell on the floor board. Luckily, I was exiting the freeway. I managed to stop safely and pull over on side of the street. There were many other repairs, so many; I have selected to have convenient amnesia. I would later sell it.
I decided that my next car would be a luxury car, but one that was energy efficient. I brought a 1988 Mercedes Benz (260e) that turned out to be the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is good on gas considering it is in the luxury car class (34'"35 miles to the gallon). In addition, I have never had any major repairs. It is dependable, it is fast, and interior designed alleviates my poor aching back while I am driving. The blue book value ranges from $300-$400.00; however, it is worth a million dollars to me. It is the best automobile I have ever owned which is evident because I still own it today!
