Present Ideas for Newborn Babies

There comes a time in the life of a person when a friend of relative is about to or has just given birth to a baby. Whether you have been invited to a baby shower or decide to visit that person and her baby in the hospital, you can't possibly go empty-handed. Newborn babies are too young to play with toys and cannot tell you what gifts they would like to get, so if you don't have any experience in buying gifts for babies, sometimes it can difficult to come up with some good baby gift ideas.

A good baby gift idea is a baby blanket because a baby never has too many blankets; whether the baby's parents often take him or her out in a stroller, a nice cosy baby blanket is sure to be welcome to keep the baby's legs warm during a walk. A baby needs a lot of blankets, as these often need to get washed, so don't worry if someone else had the same idea, you can always personalise yours to make it more special; just make sure the materials you use for this are safe for baby and that he or she won't be able to chew them off.

Ready-made baby baskets can be bought in some shops that specialize in maternity and baby products but these can be expensive; visit some websites that sell baby gift baskets for some suggestions of one that you could make yourself more cheaply (you will have to make sure the items you put in your basket are good quality ones); avoid the use of excessive wrapping materials and ribbons as these can be dangerous for babies and young children.

If you still want to get a toy, suitable toys for newborn babies are mobiles that safely fit onto a cot and will keep a baby's imagination motivated with colourful moving characters. Another idea is a baby gym; the baby's mother might want to exercise to get back to her before-birth shape, and while she does floor exercises on her own gym mat, her baby can watch her while doing his own baby work-out!

Another type of present that stimulates babies' senses are musical presents; why not get the baby a nursery-rhymes CD or any kind of soothing music? If you prefer to get something that will be pleasant to the mother's ears as well as the baby's, why not get some soothing music, either new age or classical for relaxation, that the baby can listen to before bed-time?

It can be a challenge to select the right gift for a newborn baby and if you want to make a good first impression with your first gift to baby, you must choose something that will be appreciated by the baby as well as his or her parents; your present should be a symbol of your welcoming the baby into the world and it should reflect just that.
