Best Backpacks for the Budget Minded Consumer

Shirley Norling
When choosing a backpack for back to school, is it best to consider price or quality, even if you're on a budget? Backpacks are available in every price imaginable. Those looking for a backpack on a budget can find them anywhere school supplies are sold. Walmart, Target and your local Dollar stores all carry very reasonably priced backpacks and in almost any style and fabric you could possibly want. I also found a couple of backpack styles at L L Bean and Amazon.com that I really liked because of both style and the warranties they carried. Here is a list of 4 backpacks that I feel are good buys for anyone that is budget conscious.

Eastport brand backpacks: I found these at Walmart in the $9.00 price range and up. If you're looking for low cost backpacks, these are ideal. They have several styles for the very young student as well as the middle school age crowd and up. The kids characters include Disney, Nickelodeon, Iron Man etc. For the older student they had styles with triple pockets, mesh sport styles, clear colors, all mesh etc. These are the ones I would consider best for the very budget conscious consumer. They are backpacks that will probably last through one school year, in my opinion. They are stylish and up to date for back to school.

L L BeanOriginal Book Pack: These backpacks have a suggested retail price of $25.00. The design has been the same for years and are suggested for kids 7 and over. They have one main compartment and two small zippered pockets, one with an organizer panel for pens and calculators. Other features include a key clip, padded back panel and large reflective strip along the front pocket for visibility. They carry L L Bean's lifetime warranty. They were rated 94% out of 200+ reviews. They were considered kid friendly and very durable.

L L Bean Junior Original Book Pack: This backpack has many of the same features as the L L Bean Original book pack, but is designed for the 4 and older crowd. Parents liked this one because it's lightweight, but durable. It has a retail price of $23.00 and received a rating of 4.7 out of 5. It can withstand both tears and stains.

Kelly Grommet Junior: This backpack is available through Amazon.com for around $25.00 and is designed for the 5 to 10 year old student. It has duel mesh pockets for water bottles and 2 compartments. It comes in 5 colors and has a lifetime warranty. It was rated high for durability.

I think I'm glad backpacks weren't around when I went to school. I think they look awfully uncomfortable!
