Best Backpacks for Grade School Boys

Danie Lind
Boys can be just as particular as girls when it comes to some back to school items. Most could care less about their hair or clothes, but they do pay close attention to a few special things such as shoes, and, of course, backpacks.

When shopping for the backpack, you should keep in mind that trends change and favorites can go a full 180 before the school year is up. That summer movie that brought so much attention in June may not have the staying power until next May. It's best to stay in line with some long time favorites verses one quick trend.

Star Wars is always popular among the school aged boy crowd. The franchise has been strong for over 30 years now. It lost the somewhat geeky image among today's youth with the advent of the Clone Wars cartoon. Now it is common to see boys running with light sabers and blasters pretending to be Anakin Skywalker or a Clone Commander. Star Wars backpacks will have even more staying power since the cartoon will be back with new episodes this school year.

Spongebob Squarepants may not be high on your must see TV list, but I can assure you that he's a beloved character with the elementary set. He has been around for years now, and I can assure you that almost every student knows what follows, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" Nickelodeon is continually releasing new episodes, video games, movies and books, and it is safe to say that Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs and Sandy will be bopping on Bikini Beach long after the school year has started.

GI Joe has been around since the current grade schooler's grandparents were learning their ABC's. It grew in popularity in the 1980's, and now has had a resurgence with the Regan generation having children and the live action movie. Duke, Scarlet, Rip Cord and Snake Eyes are back in full force battling the likes of Cobra Commander and his team. There is a new wave of action figures that has just been released and there are more waves expected, so this is one franchise that will not be hearing taps soon.

Spiderman 4 is expected to be released in May of 2011, so you can be sure that there will be a flood of Spiderman cartoons, commercials, toys, games, underwear, you name it. Your little man can be ahead of the trend with a backpack featuring your friendly neighborhood Spiderman in September before the push comes after Christmas.

Star Wars, GI Joe, Spongebob and Spiderman are all great choices for backpacks in the upcoming school year. These franchises have been around for years and will continue to be popular for ages to come. Your young student will be off to class with class this school year and will be the envy of boys donning last year's How To Train Your Dragon bag in February.
