The best bars in the Reno area is really a tough one. There are so many, but I have narrowed it down to a few that are very nice, friendly, and fun places. When I took this assignment, I set out with my list of several bars to visit. Can you imagine how busy I was. That's a lot of diet soda and coffee. I have chosen the ones I did because not only can you come as you are, but when you walk in you don't feel like an outsider. All of the following have great atmospheres, you will be treated as if they have always known you. You won't walk into one of these bars and be the wall flower. You will be drawn into their family quickly and will want to return.

New Washoe Bar is located on the east side of Washoe Valley off Eastlake Blvd. There is so much to say about this little place. It has fairly new owners, that mean to give the people who come in a good time. I have been by there when there are about 50 motorcycles parked out front. The locals stop by just to chat, the outta towners continue to come back periodically to just get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You might find a band playing or you might find the jukebox constantly sounding off with a variety of music. I didn't find two people alike when I visited. There is a pool table that never seems to be empty. There are bar slots to test your luck on, and don't think you will get away with out everyone knowing who you are. The crowd is a very diversified crowd. They seem to have the come one, come all attitude. I do have to say the mixture of people was great. The locals in western hats, the bikers in leathers, the delivery truck drivers in uniforms, the construction workers in orange, all set a stage for a all around great hang out. Happy hour 3-6 M-F. With this crowd and the band Little Sister playing, you are sure to ring in 2010 with style. My hat is off to the New Washoe Bar.

Bronco Billys Saloon is located off S Virginia and Plumb Ln. at 145 Hillcrest. Bronco Billys is a nice small bar with a pool table. They have happy hours, birthday parties, and friendly service. They cater to the sports fan with potlucks and game boards. The clients are like family, they won't forget your name once you've been there. There are also bar slots around the bar. For New Year's Eve you will be partying with Patrick. There will be a lot of fun to be had. This is going to be a good old fashion New Year's Eve party. You can come in costume, dress up or just go in your blue jeans, it all goes.

Bar USA is located at 902 S. Virginia in Reno. Wow, is there ever a lot of fun all week long here. Wednesday is movie night. There are a couple pool tables to grab a game. Bar slots will keep you entertained while you watch your favorite sporting event. Occasionally you will be able to catch karaoke, and possible a d.j. The jukebox is always going, and the atmosphere is very friendly. The bartenders are very upbeat, and very accommodating. Soon you will be able to play bingo so stay tuned for when that starts. New Year's Eve is sure to be a smash with Jessica and Jasmine. The party will include a potluck, so make sure you bring your favorite dish. This is also, a very laid back friendly place, so wear your Sunday best, or just come on in in your motorcycle leathers.

Coach's Grill and Sports Bar is located at 1573 S. Virginia St. If you are a sports fan, this is definitely a must on your list. Coach's definitely caters to the sporting world. They have lots of yummy food on their menu, and sometimes they just have a buffet out for all to enjoy. They do also have slots, it is Nevada. There are many specials throughout the week to be had. Happy hour is 4-7pm., so show up for some fun. New Year's Eve is going to be a hit with a d.j., buffet, and many food and drink specials. So grab your partner and head on down to bring in 2010 with Coach's.

Davidson's Distillery is located at 275 E. 4th St. in Reno. Whether you ride motorcycle or drive a corvette, maybe both, you will be very welcome as you walk into Davidson's. They have a very high spirited crowd and fun will be the name of the game if you show up here. Some of their many draws include: bands, dancing, pool, bar slots, drink specials, happy hour 4-7pm, and many drink specials throughout the week. The New Year's Eve party is sure to be rocking hard with a band. The band that night will be Determined. They are a rocknroll band that loves the crowd. Many drink specials will be available and the bartending staff is just waiting to meet you.

Ole Tyme Saloon is located in extreme south Reno at 1505 Geiger Grade Rd. As I walked into this bar, a pool table to my left bus buslein' with players, the bar in front of me was full of chit chat and laughter, the bartender Cindy smiled and said hello as she loaded up a couple with shots, and the group at the table to my right smiled and said hello. There is a real rustic feel when you walk in. There wasn't a person in the place that didn't make it a point to make me feel welcome. The line I kept hearing was, "What brings you out this way?". The neat thing was they really did care to hear why. I did hear tell of karaoke, and of course there is pool. Popcorn was being munched on. This would be a very exciting place to be for New Year's. You will bring in the first moments of '10 with Cindy as your host. Party hats and favors are on the list, champagne for everyone, and just a lot of friendly people.

Swiss Chalet is located at 501 Mill St. in Reno. Now, let me tell you something. This is a very nice, fun, never boring spot to hang out. The people who hang out here have a passion for something and you will find something to talk about. This is a very mixed group. From construction workers in their work boots, to the bank manager in his suit. I felt as if I had walked into something very special. There are televisions for your favorite games or shows. Pool table to take advantage of and a juke box that plays from old time rock n roll to the oldest country. The place is all a buzz about the football games, what's happening in Reno, and many informative conversations. The party or New Year's will get kicked off by Erin your bartender. You definitely won't be waiting for a drink long with this bartender. She is right on top of it. There is sure to be a lot of fun bringing in the New Year hanging out with this crowd.

Sidelines Bar is located in Sparks, Nevada at 1237 Baring Blvd. Where do I get started. Pool, drink specials, occasional bands, d.j.s, jukebox, pool tournaments, and just a great time. This place is a large place and a very homey environment. There are so many things to do. There are several slot machines to play. I am not sure yet who will be bartending for you New Year's Eve, but you are going to have a lot of fun. I roller bladed down to this bar from a friends house, I just dropped in for some water and was really surprised at it's size and everything it has to offer. I did notice a sign that said check out all the fun at their web site. So go to sidelines.com to get the full scoop for New Year's Eve and all the other days of the week.

Sparky's Sports Bar and Grill is located at 9570 S. Maccarran Blvd. If not for New Year's Eve, you will have to make it a point to visit this place. The wonderful food they have will keep you coming back all by itself. They have several food specials throughout the week. Two happy hours every day 7 days a week are sure to appease everyone from the 8-5 worker to the nightshift staff. Being a sports bar, there are many sports specials affiliated with the season you are in. I found a really neat thing there, free pool Tuesdays. The most interesting thing I found to be at this place actually occurred the Monday I went. It is called beer pong. Yes, I said beer pong, and it is a game of skill. You need to stop by and check it out to either play it or just watch. When I was there, the festivities for the New Year's Party were still up in the air, but I did get the low down on the bartender being John. I am sure if you set your sights on Sparky's as your New Year's excursion you won't be let down.

The Patio is located at 600 W. 5th St. in Reno. This is a diversified lifestyle crowd. There is a lot of fun to be had here. I went there and walked in to some of the most fun I had in my ventures for this article. There was a d.j. playing, everyone was dancing around straight, lesbian and gay. Everyone was having such a great time. You will find a friendly, happy and fun crowd. The d.j. shut down and next thing I knew out came a karaoke machine and back to the just down right fun and entertaining atmosphere. I sat at the bar, everyone talking to me, we all were laughing and just having a lot of fun. There are always drink specials here. M-F is karaoke nights, and f-s is d.j. dancing nights. They offer a lot of high end beverages, and a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks also. You don't want to miss this New Year's Eve party. You don't know what the entertainment might be, but there is never a dull moment allowed. No matter who you are you will have a blast.

East 50 Bar is about 3 miles east of Dayton, Nevada on highway 50. I was driving to Fallon when I came upon this little jewel. Outside there were 4 wheelers, motor bikes, regular vehicles and farm vehicles. Upon entering, everyone made eye contact and said hello. There is a happy hour here 5-6 pm 7 days a week, and they are happy. I noticed a sign that said horseshoes on certain days of the week. I also found out that on Sat. when it gets dark they have midnight pool, this is a black light pool game. They had a sign up that said they wanted to get a pool tournament going, so if you are interested call them and let them know. They also have another pool table up front. Pinball games, darts, slot machines, and a lot of friendly conversation are all included in this busy little place. New Year's Eve there will be free rides given within reason. New Year's Eve will be hoot with this crowd. Take a drive and check this one out.

I hope this has given you some fun places to go. I am wishing all a very New Year. Along with this fun, do remember to be safe and definitely have a designated driver.
