One of the most beautiful cities in England, Oxford is also home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world. The Rivers Cherwell and Isis (The Thames) run through Oxford, and with its lovely restaurants, shops, cafes and historical buildings, Oxford is one of England's top tourist destinations. In fact, 3.5 million tourists visit Oxford every year and many stay in one of the cities excellent bed and breakfast hotels. Oxford itself is quite a compact city so many of the bed and breakfast hotels are also within walking distance of the city's major attractions.

Green Gables - One of the best bed and breakfast hotels in Oxford, Green Gables is particularly nice as it's set back from the street a little, so you don't get the traffic noise you do with some hotels. Rooms are quite barren looking but are incredibly clean and well taken care of. Each room has an en suite bath, a television and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast is served every money in the beautiful little breakfast room next to the conservatory and consists of a full cooked English breakfast or several continental options. There's also a lovely seating area in the conservatory that overlooks the hotel's gardens; a nice place for a relaxing cup of coffee. Green Gables is on a main bus route, so you can take a bus into central Oxford every five minutes. The hotel is also perfectly located for traveling to the surrounding Cotsworlds countryside, Woodstock and Windsor Castle.

The Tower House Hotel - The Tower House Hotel is located in a 17th century building in a quiet, residential area of Oxford. Across from Jesus College, the bed and breakfast is small with only seven guest rooms but each guest rooms is traditionally decorated with period furniture and antiques. Four of the rooms have an en suite bath and three have a private bath. Breakfast is continental style with tea, coffee, croissants, cereal and fruit. The Tower House Hotel gets superb customer reviews online, so you can just about guarantee a nice stay here.

    Oxford is a lovely city to visit. The colleges, punting on the river, and the old buildings and shops, splendid for a day out or more. Blenheim Palace, the home of Sir Winston Churchill is only a few miles away too.
