Best Bible Verses for Christians to Engrave on Wedding Bands

Kristen May
When you are getting ready for your wedding, one of the important things to consider is what to engrave on the inside of your wedding band. Many wedding bands can have short sayings engraved inside them (usually 20-40 characters, or more if it is a wide band and can have two lines engraved inside it), and more details on how to engrave your band can be found here. You can either pick part of the text of a verse or passage to engrave, or you can just engrave the reference of where to find the particular passage in the Bible.

As Christians, my fiancé and I decided to put Bible verses inside our wedding bands because we wanted to remember that marriage was made by God and is designed to bring glory to God. However, when presented with a whole big book full of potential verses, we had a hard time picking out exactly what to put on our rings. These are some of the best options we came across:

Wedding Verses: Ephesians 5:22-33 - On Marriage, Christ, and the Church

This is a great passage that describes marriage as being very similar in structure to the relationship between Christ and the Church (or, in light of verse 32, perhaps describes Christ and the Church as reflected through marriage). Verses 22-24 of this passage, along with verse 33, describe the role a wife should play in the marriage, which is being subject to her husband, who should her as Christ loves the church and look out for her best interests. The bulk of the passage, verses 25 through 32, describe both the role of the husband and the role of Christ. This role is one of love and of desire to see the other excel and be as beautiful as possible.

Any of these verses that have significance to you and your fiancé could be engraved on your wedding bands, or you could just engrave the reference from the whole passage. My fiancé has chosen to engrave Ephesians 5:25-32 on his ring to remind him that he is to look at me as Christ looks at the church.

Wedding Verses: Proverbs 31:10-31 - On an Excellent Wife

This passage describes the many roles than an excellent wife should take, from her relationship with her husband and children, to her work, to her service in the community, and most importantly, her relationship with God. They also model an ideal Christian family in verses 28 and 29, where her children and husband appreciate and praise her for her service.

My favorite verses in this passage are 25 and 26, which read: "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." I aspire to live up to those verses, and I chose this passage (or more specifically, the reference to this passage) to be engraved on the inside of my ring as a reminder.

Wedding Verses: 1 Peter 3:1-7 - On Submission and Honor

The first six verses of this passage address women, instructing them to submit to their husbands and to let the imperishable quality of their gentle and quiet spirit shine through. Verse seven complements the first chunk nicely, pointing out that women are not submitting to husbands who take advantage of them, but that these husbands should be understanding with their wives and show them honor because they are heirs together of the grace of life.

This passage gets across many of the same ideas as the passage in Ephesians 5, but with more focus on the woman's role than the man's, making it a good choice for a woman to engrave on her ring. Verse 7 is also wonderful for a man, and it would provide a solid reminder of how to treat a wife.

Wedding Verses: Song of Solomon 8:6-7 - On The Strength and Unquenchable Nature of Love

These verses are in the final chapter of the Bible's love poem, and they can be contextually seen as either referring to the relationship between Christ and the Church, God and Israel, or Solomon and his young bride. Either way, they paint a picture of love that cannot be broken, and is as inevitable as death, making them a great lasting passage to engrave on wedding bands.
