Biking is a great way to enjoy the summer months and work some healthy exercise into your schedule. Long Island has some of the nicest and longest bike trails around, so if you are a biking fan this is a great place to go to spend a vacation or just some free time. Bike trails and parks are popular around Long Island, so plan several days to visit a few different ones! Whether you prefer paved or off-road trails, Long Island features a few of the best. Here are some of the nicest and safest bike trails:

Bike Trail #1: Jones Beach

Jones Beach is a bike trail technically called Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway. This is a 4.5 mile bike trail that runs from Cedar Creek Park. You can find this bike trail just east of the Wantagh Parkway.

Bike Trail #2: Bethpage Path

Bethpage Path is a bike trail that features a paved and off road path under the same name. The Bethpage paved route is 9.5 miles long and begins at Bethpage State Park. The path is easy to bike, making it a perfect bike path for young children and beginners. The best place to start is in the picnic area parking lot, where you can start and make a loop from there.

The Bethpage off-road bike path runs through a large pine forest and features many different challenges for the experienced off-road biker. One of the best and most difficult parts of this off-road path is the two large hills throughout the ride that one most ride over to finish. This bike trail is marked.

Bike Trail #3. Cathedral Pines County Park

This bike trail is a great one for both amateurs and the more experienced bikers to enjoy. You can choose between a moderately easy 6 mile bike ride, or a more difficult 7.5 miles that includes climbing several hills. This route is completely off-road and generally flat, unless you decide to take the hill route. Be sure to note that there is a parking fee during the summer on weekends, and you will need to obtain a Suffolk County Green Key card.

Bike Trail #4. North Fork

Looking for a big challenge? This 40-mile bike trail is a loop bike trail that runs through extensive wine country. Most of the ground is flat, although the long distance can be difficult for some. Begin at Mattituck, and take Route 48 past Southold Beach. Here the road joins Route 25 at Greenport. The marked bikeway from here will lead you to Orient Beach State Park. Here you will turn around and take the bikeway again back to Greenport, and follow Route 25 back. This is a great bike trail for the experienced biker who is looking for a challenging all-day route.
