Best Books to Give at Christmas

ED Watts
One of my favorite things to give and receive as a Christmas gift is a book. Books aren't limited to one use, they won't go bad, and can be passed down for generations. The following are some of my favorite Christmas books to give:

A Christmas Carol

This timeless classic by Charles Dickens is about old man Ebenezer Scrooge who wants to keep Christmas away. He is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas. By the end, he changes into a person who cares about others and embraces Christmas.

This is a good book to give because it is something that can be read in the days leading up to Christmas with your children and hopefully teach them the importance of caring for others.

God Gave us Christmas

This book is part of the "God Gave Us..." collection by Lisa T. Bergren and David Hohn. A polar bear and her cub discover the true meaning of Christmas. This is one of my favorite books to give because it reinforces the reason for Christmas. Also, the artwork is nice and the story is easy for young children to follow.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

In this book by Dr. Seuss, the Grinch tries to ruin Christmas for Whoville. He thinks if he steals the presents and ruins the festivities that he can ruin Christmas, but comes to discover that he can't steal the spirit of Christmas. This book is fun to read no matter how old you are. I love giving this book to kids and parents of young children for Christmas so they can enjoy reading it together like my family does.

A Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas

In this installment of the "Chicken Soup" series by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, there are several Christmas stories, including stores about enjoying Christmas with your children and making it through Christmas after the loss of a loved one. This is one of my favorite books to give because it is inspirational and reminds us what Christmas is all about.

The First Christmas

This book by Carol Heyer tells the story of Jesus in Bethlehem. This is a good book to read with your children on Christmas to let them know the reasons behind why we celebrate this holiday. It is one of my favorites because of the nice artwork and simple narration.
