Best Boston Street Food

The best Boston street food ranges from healthy vegetarian options to not so healthy but delicious fried dough. These 3 Boston food stands have earned many devoted followers.

Best Boston Street Food: Clover Food Lab

For vegetarian street foods, this truck is ideal. It parks on Carleton Street in Kendall Square near MIT in Cambridge. Business hours are 8:00 am to 2:00 pm from Monday through Friday and weekend brunch hours, and it even accepts credit cards. You can keep up with the daily schedule and occasional specials like free cupcakes at www.cloverfoodlab.com.

Some of the most popular vegetarian sandwiches include the chickpea fritter for anyone who loves falafel, and the egg and eggplant sandwich garnished with Israeli salad and tahini. Most sandwiches are about $5, and everything will be prepared for vegans upon request. The rosemary French fries ($3) are another favorite. Side salads are also delicious with choices like carrot and citrus fruits ($2). Breakfast items include fresh muffins and popovers ($2) or oatmeal ($3). Beverages include drip brewed coffee, freshly squeezed juices and lavender lemonade. You can even beat the long lines by emailing your order in advance to order@cloverfoodtruck.com.

Best Boston Street Food: Daddy's Fried Dough

Owner Rob McIntyre has been in the fried dough business for over 20 years. This Boston food stand is open daily from about 10 am to whenever the crowd dies down. It's conveniently located right outside the Park Street T station in the Chinatown neighborhood.

For just $4 you can get a freshly fried sheet of dough covered with powdered sugar and cinnamon. For $1 more, you can get the chocolate covered Boston Cream version or a variety of jam flavorings like blueberry, apple and cherry. It's not a balanced meal, but it is delicious.

Best Boston Street Food: Karo's BBQ

This Boston food stand is so popular they have two locations. You can visit Karo's BBQ at Summer Street and Hawley Street, or try the Karo's BBQ Kebab Cart at One Court Street between Washington Street and State Street. They're open Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.

They serve a variety of salads, plates, wraps and kabobs. A plain chicken kabob costs $4.50 and most salads and sandwiches are about $5.50. For only $6.50, you can get the large dinner plate with extra pilaf and rice. The fresh pitas and spicy house dressing are outstanding. The lines are often long but they move fast.
