In the mood for a Sunday morning omelet? Well, whether it's a Sunday, Monday, or anything day of the week, these places serve up a great breakfast (some of them all day long.) I've tried to find places located throughout Seattle, so that you can find one in your neighborhood to hit up this weekend for a cup of coffee with endless refills, and eggs cooked any style you like 'em.
The Varsity Inn Restaurant- If you've lived in Seattle for more than a year, chances are you've heard of, and eaten at the Varsity. This place is a Seattle institution, and cheap, cheap, cheap. It also has one the best omelet selections in the city, with the eggs rolled ever so thinly around your filling of choice. My favorite is the Greek omelet, served with mouth watering feta cheese, Greek olives, and tomatoes. (1801 N. 34th St, Seattle, WA 98103; (206) 547-2161.)
The Sunflour Café- This quaint neighborhood bakery is just the perfect atmosphere for getting a late brunch with an old friend- which is exactly how I discovered it. The eggs are great, but you might want to venture out and try their French toast. It is, after all, a bakery, and the bread is the real deal: thick and satisfying, and topped with thick maple syrup. (3118 NE 65th St, Seattle, WA, 98103; (206) 525-1034.)
The Library Café- Half the reason that this place is so great is the atmosphere: small, comfy, surrounded by books, and tables arranged so that you can have a hidden nook all to yourself. They make homemade granola, which is delicious with fresh fruit. Their coffee is excellent, but their hot cocoa is even better. It is small and unassuming, and you'll feel like you're in on some cool secret when you eat there. 858 NW 85th St. Seattle, WA, 98117; (206) 789-5682.
Café Allegra- If you're eating here, the chances are that you're a college student at University of Washington, hung over and seriously in need of some vitamins to get you back on track, and not in the mood for the local, seedy IHOP. Or, you need a place to take the parents out when they come for a visit. Either way, this is one of the few breakfast places in the U-District, which is just fine, because the food is delicious. And instead of getting weak Folgers, you can actually get a decent latte, since the place is also an espresso bar. Located right in the historic College Inn. (4000 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105; (206)634-2310.)
Serafina- The trendy and very busy dinner spot sells brunch! And it is absolutely incredible…eggs, salmon, caviar, fresh fruit, mimosas. If you are looking for gourmet brunch that they only seem to prioritize on the East Coast, then this is the place to do it. It's a little pricier than other breakfast joints, but for obvious and worthwhile reasons. (2043 Eastlake Ave. E. Seattle, WA 98102; (206) 623-6333.)
First Hill Bar & Grill- This restaurant is a great place to go for any meal of the day, especially if you want a place where you won't feel awkward chowing down by yourself. The counter seating, the constant stream of regulars, and the friendly and chatty wait staff will make you feel more than comfortable. It is in the hospital district in Seattle, so it is a great place to kill time and grab a bite if you're waiting to pick someone up. There are also roomy and very cozy booths. The menu is large and reasonably priced, and the eggs are just what you are craving in the morning. (901 Madison St, Seattle, WA 98106; (206) 623-6333.)
There are quite a few great breakfast spots in the city, but these are just a few favorites. It's important to find ones that you love. After all, it's the most important meal of the day.
