Best Budget Beauty Products for Combination Skin Under $25

Want to Still Look Beautiful During a Recession? Try These Combo-skin Gems for Less Than the Pricey Stuff

Paula Neal Mooney
Many women have combination skin like me. Sometimes your face feels so dry and ashy and in need of moisture ASAP -- while other days the well-known T-zone, that area that includes your forehead and nose, feels normal or oily. That's combo skin.

Of course, some of the time my oily forehead is thanks to me gunking on anything that can moisturize my hair that I have on hand in order to try and slick and stretch the short stuff back into a pony tail: Today I sit here typing this with lavender-scented Johnson's Baby Oil and that new Gillette molding matte cream for men that are my favorites in my hair, which I'm trying not to relax for a while.

Best Products for Combo-Skin Under $25

But back to the face. According to one of the websites that tracks trends of the best selling products online, Top Selling Online reports that one of my favorite vendor's products, Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, is one of those best-selling, perennial products that makes it in under the mark at only $24 on Amazon.

The thing I love about using Clinique's products -- though it seems like a while since I've headed into my local Dillards or Macy's to buy some -- are that you can easily tell the cosmotologist your number, like mine is #2 for the combo skin, and then get products based on your skin type.

This includes the soap, clarifying lotion and the moisturizing stuff as part of the "daily routine" they recommend.

Beauty Products for Combination Skin Way Less Than $25

During this period of "savings spree" as I like to call it, even getting Clinique products can seem like an ultimate luxury. That's when I head to my local beauty supply store -- or my grocery store -- to get products to enhance my combo dry/normal/sometimes oily from my hair products face that are waaayyy less than $25. O

ne of those less expensive products I absolutely love is St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Oily or Acne Prone Skin, which is listed online at only $8.88 -- but I know I get it for around 6 or 7 bucks or less around me. It's so cool for scrubing off any o and dirirect and exfoliating dead skin without having to go with fancy, pricier products that don't even scrub as well as St. Ives.

Reminds me of a poem: "When I was going to St. Ives..." but again, back to the beauty routine.

Use the Products That Work for Your Combo Skin

Basically, it's a function of finding out what works for your combination skin. I realized I haven't visited the Clinique counter in awhile becaususe other products seem to work just as well for me, like the standard Seabreeze on a cotton ba that we've used since our teen years.

Or, plain old body lotion on your face as a moisturizer -- even though "experts" say you should use specially-formulated face moisturizers on your face alone -- not everyone is rich like Leona Helmsley was or celebritiethese dadays who adhere to special routines to upkeep their skin.

Go with what works for you. And if it's under $25, that's even better.

First off, I'm in my early 20's and have combination type skin with occasional, mild to moderate acne. I used nearly two whole ProActiv systems before switching to the Made from Earth Green Tea Toxin Cleanser and have found that this clears up my skin much better and faster. The Cleanser kit lasts around 2 months for me. I still get an occasional zit or two, but with less frequency than I did in the past. I also have been using the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum (from Made from Earth) to fight some wrinkles around my eyes which just started to form.

Word of advice for the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser: It might be best if you shake the tube of the Green tea cleanser cleanser before you start using it.

NEVER EVER use body lotion on your face. Horrible idea, especially for combo skin.

Nothing you recommended other than clinique lotion is very useful- St.Ives scrub is very harsh and can cause tiny micro-tears in your skin that leave it raw and red. People with combo skin should avoid anything too harsh and head to sephora or origins for some expert advice.

I found that plain aloe vera also is just great. My skin loves it and it was super cheap. St.Ives has been a great stand by in the past and I'm sure it will continue to be that way.

Oh, please do not use body lotion on your face!! Even if it does not cause you to break out, the chemicals are too harsh and it contains NO ingredients to fight aging. It may make your skin feel better in the short term, but it is very detrimental!!
