Forever 21
These stores popped up all over New York City in the last few years. There is a location on 34th Street and Broadway, 14th Street Union Square, and Soho. They have the coolest clothes for the smallest prices. It tends to be a juniors store but they recently added a new "plus size" category which in Forever 21 terms just means normal people sizes. You can score dresses anywhere from 8$ and tank tops from $5. They have specials called "fabulous finds" that are the cheapest of cheap. You can now shop on line at www.forever21.com to avoid the messiness that is the store .The only downfall is that the clothes aren't made that well, and sometimes tend to fall apart after wearing them a few times. The sell shoes now, bags, underwear, bras, belts, and sunglasses. Great place to pick up a few things to accessorize your wardrobe without breaking the bank.
H&M
New stores are also popping up all over New York City. There are 2 right across the street from each other on Broadway in Soho. There are also locations on 5th Avenue on 53rd Street, 42nd Street and 5th Avenue, 18th Street and 5th Avenue, 2 Locations on 34th Street one on Broadway and one on 7th Avenue, and 1 in Harlem on 125th Street. These locations all carry different lines and sometimes 1 store will not have what the other store does. They carry classic work clothes, but also trendy cool going out for the night clothes. They aren't as cheap as Forever 21, but the clothes are better quality and do last longer. Dresses can run anywhere from $20-$40 and jeans usually run around $35. They also have bras, belts, accessories, hats, scarves, tights, underwear, earrings, and necklaces all for under $10 usually.
Century 21
There is a location in Brooklyn and the other in Downtown Manhattan across from the World Trade Center site. This place is great if you have the time to really look and sort through things. It can be a mad house and usually is but they have amazing designer bargains. While the other stores replicate designer trends Century 21 has the actual designer goods. Some might be from last season, and some might be surplus from other department stores but you do get the real deal. So if you want to show your friends your new Gucci shoes without paying the price this is the place to be. I recommend Brooklyn if you can get yourself out there it is less crowded.
JCPenney
There is a location in the Queens Center Mall, and coming in the summer of 2009, 34th Street location in the Manhattan Mall in New York City. Now a lot of people categorize JCPenney as a Sears, or Kmart but JCPenney is so much better. This hidden gem has recently added many designers to their store including, I Heart Ronson, Chip & Pepper, and Nicole Miller. One of the best things about JCPenney is there is always a sale. The prices which are already low are somehow always lower. Another great thing about JCPenney is the juniors department. Unlike Forever 21 the juniors department at JCPenney has a plethora of sizes and lengths on their pants and jeans. You can score a great pair of designer trendy jeans and pay only $19.99. They have great dresses that range from $20-$50 and the quality of clothing is pretty good. It is a department store so you will find a ton of other things but the jeans and dresses are some of the best deals out there. Of course there are a lot of bad clothes so you need to sort through things but it is never super crowded and if you sign up for a credit card you always get coupons in the mail and 10% of purchases.
New York & Company
There is only 1 location in New York City and that is on 59th and Lexington. Like JCPenney New York and Company is always on sale. Also if you have their credit card the first Tuesday of every month you save an extra 15% and every other Tuesday is 10% off. They always give you coupons that save you big money like save $30 on a purchase of $75 so you get $75 worth of clothing for only $45. Plus their prices are so low you can get a lot of stuff for that $75. They have great work clothing and also great accessories such as watches, bags, flip flops, necklaces, sunglasses, and underwear. You can really look great for work and not have to spend a lot of money to do so.
These top 5 stores are where I get all my clothes and I am always complimented and asked where I got things. The thing about shopping on a budget is you can look great without spending a lot. All you have to do it pick great pieces and accessorize them the right way. Anyone can look great and have designer looking clothes in New York City without breaking the bank.
