Best Burger Joints in Jacksonville, Florida

From Beach Dives to Downtown Delis, Jacksonville Has a Burger Joint Just Perfect for You

K. Bellamy
Since Jacksonville is a beach town (or city), you can expect to find some great burger joints just off the water and Jacksonville doesn't let you down. In Jacksonville, you can find the gold standard in beach dives, one hamburger joint with a name you'll never forget, and one burger that you'll drive off the beach for. Here are my three favorite burger joints in Jacksonville.

Cruisers
Jacksonville Beach

Cruisers is your regular beach dive filled with surfer dudes and bikini clad girls just off the beach. Specializing in burgers, cheese fries, marinated chicken, and Tex-Mex favorites such as fish tacos, nachos, and quesadillas, Cruisers has also won numerous Best of Cheap Eats and Best Burgers Awards for the Jacksonville area.

Customers rave about the bacon cheese fries (and any of their cheese fries, quite frankly), hamburgers, cheeseburgers, homemade ranch dressing, chicken chunks, tacos, and quesadillas. The fish tacos are my favorite and the ranch dressing they make is definitely a stand out. Salads are also available for the health conscious. The original Cruisers is the typical beach dive and you can expect the usual beach type food service situations here. Service stays busy and sometimes can seem inattentive. And the corners may seem a little dingy - but it is a beach dive, after all.

The Cruisers Grills located in the Lakewood area of Jacksonville and St. Augustine receive usually receive higher marks from patrons for cleanliness and friendly staff but lack that funky beach dive decor of the original.

Col. Mustard's Phabulous Phat Burgers
Atlantic Beach

Tired of Jacksonville Beach? Then mosey on down just a few miles to Atlantic Beach to give Col. Mustard's Phat Burger a try. If the name doesn't entice you, the full menu of unusual burger names and combinations will. My favorite is The Suns, a 1/2 lb. (or more) burger with sliced mushrooms, fried onions, and Swiss cheese. But feel free to try a Nacho Burger, French Burger, Bahama Burger, or even an Egg Burger.

San Marco Deli
Historic San Marco in Downtown Jacksonville

To prove that the best burger joints can be elsewhere in Jacksonville besides the beach, you might want to give the San Marco Deli a try when you're feeling a little guilty over your red meat intake. That's because San Marco Deli showcases a wonderful Turkey Burger among its sandwich selections. Your choice of fries, onion rings, or another side selection can be made to go along with your turkey burger. Black bean salad is my favorite.

And don't worry, if you can't forgo the red meat, they have regular burgers along with a showcase of scrumptious sandwiches and salads. Open for breakfast and lunch only.
