Best Burger Joints in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Missy Slink
Nothing says "America" quite like a local hamburger joint. For residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma there is no shortage of such venues, as this town is full of delicious hamburger restaurant options. After living here for several years, here are my top three favorite places to grab a hamburger in this oil-industry rich Midwestern town.

1) James E. McNellie's Public House: Commonly referred to as "McNellie's," this restaurant is famous for their lively atmosphere and Wednesday burger nights from 5-11pm. Every Wednesday McNellie's offers a $3.00 basic hamburger deal, with an additional fifty cents charged for the addition of bacon or cheese. A choice of delicious regular or sweet potato fries is also available for another fifty cents, making the overall meal price extremely affordable. The hamburgers themselves are very large and filling. This weekly deal is a favorite for many Tulsan citizens and the wait to be seated in the restaurant can often run close to an hour, depending on the size of your group and the time of the evening when you wish to dine. Fortunately, however, McNellie's convenient location in downtown Tulsa on 1st and Elgin makes the wait more bearable and most groups pass the time by taking a short walk to local hangout spots such as "The Center of the Universe."

2) Goldies Patio Grill: Goldies is the perfect family restaurant, loved by all who dine there. Some of my friends' parents who once lived in Tulsa over twenty years ago still love to reminisce about "the good old times" at their favorite burger joint-Goldies. For any pickles lovers, Goldies has a complete pickle bar for your hamburger garnishing joy. The original Goldies is still located on S. Lewis Ave, right where the old patrons will remember it. Their burger prices are also pleasantly affordable, with most of their burgers falling in the range of $6-$7. Overall, Goldies Patio Grill is a great place to take your family out for a delicious hamburger dinner.

3) Paradise Burgers: Though smaller and less well known among non-Tulsans than either of the above options, Paradise Burgers is still a favorite of many locals. Paradise Burgers has a charming atmosphere, with old fashion signs and posters as the indoor décor. The fries here are shoestring fries, which is a nice alternative to the regular fries at most burger joints. The prices are also extremely affordable, with a drink included in most meal options. Besides just hamburgers, Paradise Burgers' menu also offers many delicious Greek cuisine options.
