The Goodburger menu is limited; but that suited us fine as whenever we visit Goodburger there is only one thing we're after; a Good Burger! The menu at Goodburger has metastasized recently, but to be more precise their menu is simplicity itself; consisting of a single hamburger or a double hamburger with or without cheese, a veggie burger, a grilled chicken sandwich, a grilled cheese sandwich as well as the 'burger special' which is a mushroom Swiss burger with sautéed it mushrooms, grilled onions, melted Swiss cheese and A1 steak sauce. Another item of note, which is relatively new to the menu, is their turkey burger.
If you'd like fries with that (which I heartily suggest) there are a number of Fry options including French fries, the new cheese fries, as well as onion rings, coleslaw, pickle, Texas steak chili or any of their daily soup specials. There are also a couple of salad options including Caesar and organic greens, but people usually don't visit Goodburger for their greenery. To prove my point, over lunch I told my friend Kathy about the salad options to which she indignantly replied, "This place has got salad?"
Make sure and wash the whole thing down with your choice of sodas, lemonade, iced tea, lime Rickey, root beer floats, egg creams milkshakes, or other bottled beverages. Of course, no gluttonous dinner would be complete without desert and they have many different types of cookies, cakes and brownies for your selection.
All in all I have to agree with the food critic from the New York Times, which called Goodburger; "The best burger in the New York." I've been rather partial to the
Goodburger poison ever since I worked over in the area of their 43rd St restaurant on the east side of Manhattan. More to the point, the meat on their burgers is succulent, lean, and delicious. I only very recently started taking my burgers medium with a lot of red inside of them and Goodburger is the reason why.
If you're ever out on the town, on a date, or in the area, and you'd like to try the Goodburger, burger stop in and check it out. Goodburger has that old diner, sock-hop, 1950's feel to it; all your food is served in thin cardboard containers, just like out at the stadium or drive in. And if you get a job on the east side of town or you're lucky enough to move within their delivery zone, call in! Nothing beats a Goodburger on a cold winter's day.
Goodburger currently has two locations in Manhattan, both on the east side of town and both above 42nd St. The addresses for both are:
Second Avenue at 43rd St. 802 2nd Ave. corner of 43rd 212-922-1700
Lexington at 54th 636 Lexington Ave corner of 54th St 212-838-6000
