Best Burgers in Pensacola, Florida

Gina Covell Maddox
Pensacola, Florida offers three, locally owned, dining establishments that boast bragging-rights burgers on the menu. There are three great burger options with three unique dining experiences; upscale, old school, and on the beach.

For an upscale atmosphere, patterned after a turn of the century New York Irish Saloon, there's no competition to the do-it-up-big, Angus Steak Burger featured at McGuire's Irish Pub. Priced at $9.99, the three-quarter pound steak burgers come in any style you can imagine; Cracked Peppercorn, Creole Blackened, Carolina BBQ, Guacamole and Monterrey Jack, Wasabi Hot, Hawaiian Pineapple, Texas Chili & Cheddar, or my favorite, The Black & Blue Steak Burger. Visit www.mcguiresirishpub.com for a complete list of burger options. While you're at the pub be sure to order a beer. McGuire's serves award-winning fine Ales, Porters, and Stouts brewed on premises.

If you're craving an old school burger from your childhood, Jerry's Drive-In on Cervantes in Pensacola is the place. Jerry's, more diner than drive-in, has a 1950's influenced, slightly-a-dive atmosphere, with prices that make you think you've stepped into the past. A cheese burger is just over two bucks, but splurge and go for the Bacon Cheeseburger with cheese fries and a root beer float. You'll enjoy the juicy burger, but you may want to make that appointment with your cardiologist soon. Jerry's is so old school that they don't have a website, but you can become one of their nearly 2,600 fans on Facebook. Just look for "Jerry's Drive In."

My favorite burger is found on the beach at Pensacola Beach's Surf Burger. Sit outside and enjoy the spectacular view of Santa Rosa Sound. In the spring and summertime you can sneak a peak of bikini babes and hobie-catting hunks. If you're a tad bit older, head to the south side of the veranda and enjoy the music from the high-dollar establishment next door. The signature 1/3 pound burgers are made with 100% fresh ground beef on a Kaiser roll and covered with a tasty secret sauce. The toughest choice to make at Surf Burger is which fries to try; Sticks, the twice fried Idaho Russets, or, Sweet Hula Chips, sliced sweet potatoes. Sandy feet and damp swim suits are welcome at Surf Burger. For more information about the best burger in paradise visit www.thesurfburger.com.
