Best Burgers in Steubenville, Ohio

Hometown Burger Joints

Melanie D. Dameron
Things have changed drastically in my hometown since I was there as a kid and young adult. Many of the place I knew where no longer there, but this past summer I had a chance to return home for an extended stay. Checking out all the new and old restaurants and hole-in-the-wall spots was heavenly. I've never been a slacker on eating and especially when it comes to burgers and fries. Coming from a cheese head family, my idea of a good breakfast, lunch or dinner as a teenager and even now is a nice, fat, juicy cheeseburger. What better combination is there in the world than meat and cheese? Even if you're being health conscious and doing a low carb meal, just toss that bun aside and have the server bring it on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes and the works.

Being that Steubenville is a small town, outside of the traditional fast food places your choices can be limited. I enjoyed discovering these old and new favorite burger joints during my return.

1) Damon's Grill (www.damons.com) is located in the University area of town on University Boulevard. Their menu is American with a little twist. They serve steaks, chicken, fish, a couple Italian and Thai dishes, salads and of course burgers being the highlight. The undoubted favorite is the Angus Cheeseburger with a combination of cheddar and pepper jack cheese and hickory smoked bacon. It comes with fries or crispy straw onions that make your tummy twinkle. The atmosphere is casual and a very nice dining experience.

2) Eatn' Park (www.eatnpark.com) has a bit more traditional restaurant feel. It is located out by the Fort Steuben mall on Mall Drive. Their menu is old style American, but has some great low carb and Celiac options. The best burger on the menu is the Original Superburger with melted cheese. I don't know what is in the supreme sauce, but it is supreme.

3) Located right downtown on 4th Street in Steubenville is Pee Dee's Brunch and Bar also known as Pee Dee's Coffee Shop and Bar. If you are looking for a spot to fall off into and enjoy good food, this is it. Their traditional cheese burger topped with lettuce, tomato and pickle speaks for itself and will prompt you to return again soon. The atmosphere can get a little noisy and busy at times, but a good burger is worth it.
