Best Buttercream Frosting

Rebecca Bardelli

This is the best buttercream frosting. Use it to frost and decorate your own cakes. This buttercream frosting is rich and tastes like the buttercream frosting on cakes purchased from the bakery. Although this is a recipe for buttercream frosting, there is no butter in the recipe.

Ingredients for the Best Buttercream Frosting

2 sticks margarine (softened, not melted)
2 cups Crisco
1 box powdered sugar (more if needed for a thicker consistency)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Food coloring (optional)

Directions for the Best Buttercream Frosting

Before starting, make sure your Crisco is fresh. Smell it to be sure it has not gone rancid. Opened Crisco can develop a bad taste and bad odor over time. Bad Crisco equals bad buttercream frosting.

Cream Crisco and margarine together with egg beaters. Add vanilla and powdered sugar, beating very well with to create a smooth frosting.

To decorate your cake purchase supplies from a cake or craft store. Wilton gives complete instructions on how to choose and use decorating bags.

This buttercream frosting is great on cookies as well as cake! Happy baking!
