Best Buy Online Pricing Screw Up

This is Too Good to Be True

William Bass
Heads will roll at major electronic retailer Best Buy for the best deal available on a Samsung LN52a650 52" LCD/HDTV for an unbelievable price of only $9.99 that normally retails for over $1,900. Someone responsible for pricing changes goofed up and must have entered the wrong data on the wrong product. However, consumers started purchasing the Samsung 52" TV online at Best Buy before company staff caught the mistake. I wonder if Best Buy will honor those purchases as an error on their part or cancel all orders and refund those that jumped on the deal to purchase a 52" Samsung for $9.99. More than likely Best Buy will have an error and omissions clause giving them the right to not to honor the purchases.

Best Buy would lose a lot of money if they were required to honor those purchases. Best Buy response is pending at this time for response to what caused the price of the Samsung TV to show $9.99. It could have been a software glitch or human error, but someone will pay the price behind the scenes for allowing a pricing error grand as this.

I know most people lean to the fact that its Best Buy's fault and they should honor the price. However, if you're guaranteed to lose a lot of money for something you didn't notice in time wouldn't you want the opportunity to correct it and to explain the situation? Yes, we all have been there and technology is no different because humans make mistakes when inputting data.

However, I would question the quality control process that Best Buy has in place and figure out who didn't perform the operational procedures when price changes are made at Bestbuy.com. Online retailers must have more than a few sets of eyes checking the changes of a website because staring at the screen will make you see double anyways.

Who would ever thought you could really get a Samsung 52" LCD TV from Best Buy at $9.99? That old saying "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is" unless someone pulled a five-finger discount and was trying to unload a stolen TV.

Best Buy is a major corporation and if they don't honor the price of $9.99 for a Samsung 52 inch LCD TV it may create some hostility since the buzz of the hot deal is appearing online across the world. However, I'm sure Best Buy will cancel the orders and maybe offer a store credit for those people that bought the $9.99 TV on a mistake on Best Buy's part.
