Best Christian Rock Songs and Lyrics

Nikki
Christian rock music and bands have traditionally gotten a bad rap in religious circles. When I was younger, all the preachers I heard stood in the pulpit and said the beat to rock and roll music had satanic undertones and would drive kids to have sex, smoke pot, get drunk, or participate in other sinful behavior. Then Christian rock music hit the scene and some church leaders were still reluctant to believe "true worship" could be found in tunes with such hectic beats and rhythm. It didn't matter that the lyrics spoke about loving God or any other traditional religious topic, these devout preachers couldn't look past the "rock and roll" stigma.

That was then, this is now, and we have pushed forward a few years to a new era. A strong trend has emerged where churches, worship leaders, and listeners have gained respect for the artists in Christian rock bands. The dedicated singers and band members who made this type of music popular have proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Their song lyrics tell the same stories as more traditional church worship songs, but the upbeat rhythm and pounding drums or wailing guitars make "boring church music" more appealing to a younger crowd. The fan base for this genre grows larger every day and new artists are emerging to meet the growing demand.

The following is a list of some of my favorite Christian rock bands and solo artists, along with some of their chart topping hits.

I really like "By His Wounds," that the lead singer from Third Day sings. It puts Isaiah 53:5 to song. "He was pierced for our transgressions / He was crushed for our sins / The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him..."
