Christian Academy on Moanalua Road in Honolulu opened its doors in 1981. It is part of the First Assembly of God which is a Pentecostal revival church. The school has about 250 students in preschool through grade 12, however about 50 of those students are in the preschool. The Bible is used to formulate the curriculum at Christian Academy, and its influence can be found in each subject. Students study literature, math, science, fine arts, history, geography, and physical education. The Christian Academy is a very patriotic school and American history and government is taken quite seriously and is also a major part of the school curriculum. Tuition at the Christian Academy is about $6,000.
Kaimuki Christian School on Koko Head Avenue, is part of the conservative nondenominational Christian church, Kaimuki Christian Church. There are about 225 students in preschool through grade eight. The school follows the traditions of the Restoration Movement which states that the Bible is the authority and that all followers of Jesus Christ be united. The curriculum is traditional and students study math, science, spelling, reading, writing, computers and religion, however Christian values are incorporated throughout. Most of the students are from families that are members of the Kaimuki Christian Church. Tuition fees are about $7,000.
Word of Life Academy was founded in 1993. Although it is a fairly new school, it is part of the Word of Life Christian Worship Center which has over seven thousand members and has a television broadcast that reaches over 300,000 people. There are about 450 students in preschool through grade twelve. The school itself is spread out between Queen Street, Restaurant Row and One Waterfront Tower. The curriculum at the Word of Life Academy is Bible-based. Most of the student's day is spent in prayer, praise and worship. It is not a college preparatory school and the academic curriculum is not as rigorous as other schools. The academy uses the Bible as the source for all subjects. Many of the students, however, travel abroad for missionary work. Children from all over the island, from Waianae to Wahiawa, come to learn at Word of Life Academy. Tuition is about $8,000.
