Best Christmas 90s Movies

Top 10 90s Christmas Movies

Ranee Wright
The 1990's produced many new, fun and original Christmas movies. The best 90s Christmas movies include a series that my kids really enjoy. The 90s decade put out some great Christmas movies the whole family can enjoy. In no particular order, here are 10 of the best christmas movies from the 90s.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) Tim Burton's amazing "stop motion" film is a classic Christmas movie about a misfit Pumpkin King that thinks his purpose is to merge Halloween and Christmas. Perfect for those with a great imagination that like being taken to a strange and unique place. Definitely the most original Christmas movie of the decade. Not for small children. Rated PG

Jingle All the Way (1996) Some parents will go to extremes to get the hottest toy of the season for their child. This movie pokes fun at the materialism of Christmas while managing to be humorous and entertaining. Possibly the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ever. Also starring Phil Hartman, Rita Wilson and Sinbad.

The Santa Clause (1994) A heartwarming story of Santa-in-training with amazing images of the North Pole Workshop. Tim Allen is funny and he does a great job becoming Santa. This movie is a great Christmas comedy of the 90s.

Jack Frost (1998) No one knows 'when their time will come' but Michael Keaton gets a second chance at life as Jack Frost. Kelly Preston plays Michael's wife. An excellent heartwarming family Christmas movie from the 90s.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) Based on Charles Dickens's classic "A Christmas Carol" Michael Caine plays a great Ebenezer Scrooge. The Muppets is an American Christmas classic that can be appreciated by all ages. One of many great Christmas movies of the decade.

The Nutcracker(1993) A huge star of the 90s, Macaulay Culkin plays the Nutcracker prince that protects the little girl that has dreamed herself into a fantasy world of real toys. This movie has become somewhat obscure, but it's perhaps one of the finest renditions of the classic ballet in recent years. Culkin studied ballet and does a nice job as the prince. The music and costumes are awesome.

Home Alone (1990) A Christmas comedy and family favorite that will surely make you laugh. Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is an 8 year old that gets left behind when his family travels to Paris for Christmas vacation. He definitely makes the most of it and truly becomes the man of the house as he sets traps for two burglars. The mischief he gets into reminds me of Dennis the Menace, which was also good for a laugh. My kids also like Home Alone 2 and 3.

Home Alone 2 Lost in New York (1992) This is one great sequel with Kevin left alone once again at Christmas, this time in New York. Kevin stays at the Plaza Hotel and has a stand off once again with the same burglars from Part 1. Starring once again Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. My kids like the sequel better than the first.

Home Alone 3 (1997) In this threequel, Kevin is replaced by the 'new kid' Alex, who is home alone at Christmas due to a case of chicken pox. Alex discovers robbers in the neighborhood and sets booby traps to capture the thieves. This Christmas movie is mostly enjoyed by children; adults do not appreciate its humor.

Mixed Nuts (1994) A Christmas quirky, bizarre comedy starring Steve Martin and Adam Sandler set in a suicide clinic on Christmas Eve. This is an eccentric 90s christmas movie worth watching.
