A Renaissance Christmas Concert: The Tallis Scholars who have been called "the rock stars of renaissance" by The New York Times collaborate with the Folger Consort for a program featuring Purcell, Byrd, Gibbons, and Taverner at Georgetown University's Gaston Hall. Performances are December 10 through December 12 with tickets of $30 to $50.
A Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols: Saint John's Episcopal Church of Georgetown presents a free Christmas event on December 12 from 10 am to 11:15 am. This beloved holiday concert of readings and music originated at King's College, Cambridge and features music arranged by Rutter and Willcocks in addition to traditional Christmas carols for all to sing.
National Symphony Orchestra's Handel's Messiah: The NSO performance of Handel's Messiah is one of the most famous Washington DC Christmas events. With conductor Rinaldo Alessandrini, four guest vocal soloists, and the University of Maryland Concert Choir, this holiday concert is December 16 to 19 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall with tickets of $20 to $85.
National Gallery of Art Christmas Carols: The National Gallery of Art's free Sunday evening concerts will be devoted to traditional Christmas carols on December 12. As always, it starts at 6:30 pm in the West Garden Court of the West Building. This performance is by Ensemble Galilei, five women with a Celtic/folk sound.
