The family comedy movie National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation features Chevy Chase as Clark W. Griswald - an archetypical family man who goes all out when it comes to Christmas festivities... of any kind. From an over-decorated house to an over-slicked snow sled, Chevy Chase lights up the skies and fills this Christmas comedy movie with laughs. Randy Quaid also makes an appearance as an amusing supporting character and in-law in this family holiday film.
2 - A Christmas Story (1983) - Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, Peter Billingsley and Ian Petrella
In the Ohio-based holiday comedy A Christmas Story Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker watches what happens when his friend is double-dog-dared, attempts to not shoot his eye out, tastes soap, receives the worst Christmas present a child could get, tries not to say the F word and attempts, briefly, to keep his cool against the class bully. This movie is classic Christmas comedy through the eyes of a child, which can be "Fragile" (FRA-GEE-LAY).
3 - Scrooged (1988) - Bill Murray, Karen Allen and John Forsythe with John Glover and Bob Goldthwait
The Bill Murray movie Scrooged is the best adaptation of the classic story "A Christmas Carol" and Bill Murray is the perfect actor to play this version's Scrooge, Frank Cross. You know the classic Christmas tale - in all its' variations - and you know Bill Murray, so you can't go wrong with this holiday movie, which speaks for itself and features some quality support roles.
4 - Home Alone (1990) - Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern
Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister portrays what happens when a child is left Home Alone for the holidays and criminals attempt to burglarize his house. What ensues is a non-stop string of booby-traps, hijinks and pranks involving loads of physical humor with criminals Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as Harry and Marv. Kevin McCallister will defend his home, at any cost... even if it means making a mess of the neighborhood. Ultimately, resolution appears from an unexpected place, but fittingly so.
5 - How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) - Jim Carrey, Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor and Christine Baranski
The 2000 version of the Dr. Seuss movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas directed by Ron Howard stars Jim Carrey as a furry, green Grinch, which, in and of itself, propels this movie into the top five best Christmas comedy movies. After all, the movie won an Academy Award (Oscar) for "Best Makeup" and received two nominations for "Best Costume Design" and "Best Art Direction-Set Decoration."
