The beauty content start early in morning with the entries ranging in age from 3 to 18 and includes boys and girls. There is a Mr. And A Miss in each age group. People at home can watch the pageant on the local television station, which will televise the events for the entire day. The contestant will parade around in lovely evening attire and perform the talents in front of not only a live audience but also a television audience. They all compete for the title of holiday king and queen. It is such a treat for all who enter.
After the pageant, the local school and church choirs line up for their chance to sing. Many sing wonderful Christmas tunes and some sing religious hymns. There is even a chance for soloist to perform his or her own masterpieces before the parade to the Christmas light show. It is a humbling experience to hear so many voices singing their hearts out. This is the beginning of the days Christmas light extravaganza. The places where all begin to realize that year is almost over and the holidays are hear.
Then the town takes to the streets and the kids eagerly await the parade contestants. Every year the merchants compete for first place in a theme contest. Each float is judged based on the way their float relates to the theme. Then the local merchants line up at the beginning of the old main street with their floats decorated with Christmas lights. As the parade start the judges look for designs that strike their eyes. The children shout with joy and the floats pass by and candy is tossed. At the end of the parade is Janssen Park. There everyone will meet for the finale.
The greatest Christmas light display in Mena is lit for the very first time. Throughout the crowd joy is felt and the air burst into song. The kids are happy and the world seems right. Throughout the holiday season many more cars will make the tour of the Janssen Park Christmas light. It is the peak of the Christmas lighting celebrations in town every year. With joy in their hearts and there memories made, everyone goes home filling fulfilled with the day's events. All is well and now they can rest knowing the New Year is ahead.
