Christmas for my family would not be the same without a visit to Bristol Motor Speedway's Christmas in Lights. The looks on my children's faces is priceless and really gets me into the spirit of things. The Tri-Cities area has so much to offer, but at Christmas time this is the must have experience to feel like a kid all over again. Driving around looking at Christmas lights have always been a tradition for my family, but the speedway really has a lot to offer and is located in one area. You get to drive on the same track as the NASCAR superstars as well. We never miss a year going there.
There are over three million lights in the Christmas displays and animated displays. The Tennessee Valley Authority helps provide the energy it takes to power all of these spectacular things we have the enjoyment of seeing. There are several restaurants nearby the track as well so afterwards head on over to grab an excellent bite of food. There is a Wal-Mart near by as well just incase you find yourself in the mood to do some Christmas shopping afterwards. My family has made that a tradition as well. We go to the lights, enjoy the activities, and then we grab a bite to eat and finish our shopping lists. Between the lights and the other things offered, a family can do so much here that no one will leave saying that they were bored.
Once you are done looking at the lights you can drive from the track down into the pits and visit with Santa Claus and many other activities. There is coffee and cocoa among many other things to warm you up if the night is cold. If you like to add a little extra to your outing make sure you stop by the York Ice Skating Rink at the main entrance. The prices for both are very reasonable and all proceeds go to help children in need. This can be a great vacation stop for those traveling on interstate I-81, or a great new family tradition for those in the surrounding area. There is never a boring moment when you visit the speedway during the holidays.

Post a CommentI have been to the Speed way lights only once and they were as beautiful as she says. I grew up in Oregon and saw a light show there every year. When I married my husband I got to see the BMS lights and thought they were the most festive beautiful thing I had ever seen. The helping area kids made me want to do it again and again, but I haven't because times are tight.
