While driving my husband to work the other evening my youngest child was in awe and amazement at all of the Christmas lights everywhere. To see the light in her eyes and hear the thrill in her voice made my heart melt. I remembered what it was like when I was a child growing up in Ohio and seeing all the houses lit up from the freeway and all the fun we had decorating our own home and yard. I felt so young again just thinking of those moments.
Just take a ride down any road here in Kingman and you will find many homes shining bright and looking more beautiful than ever. The snowmen lit up in the yard, Santa on top of the rooftops, reindeers all scattered about, and you just can't pick only one beautiful sight.
We look forward every year to piling up in the car and taking a nice long ride around to see who decorated what this year and how much bigger or brighter it is this year. There is a hilltop here in Kingman that they always have lit up with lights to look like a tree with a nice bright star up top. So far the tree part is there but no star yet. Every evening we go out my youngest daughter will ask, "When will they get around to getting that star up top Momma?" I have to tell her to be patient and the star will be there. As soon as that star is up you know the season has kicked in full gear here.
Another cute spot in Kingman to see all decorated is what they call old Kingman which is downtown. When you go to downtown Kingman it's like a trip back in time. All the parking in front of the stores, everyone gathered around the storefronts talking and gossiping, makes you feel like some things haven't changed in this town. It's an exciting and festive moment to see all the store windows downtown all decorated and ready for the Christmas shopping season welcoming all the shoppers. December 2, 2006 they will having the Very Merry Parade of Lights. Everyone joins downtown to view all of the floats and see Santa lighting up downtown with so many beautiful light displays and floats.
If you are looking for a special small town Christmas feeling with all the lights and warm feelings of days gone by take a stop in Kingman and take a look at all the warmth and bright cheer the folks here have to offer everyone. You are guaranteed to remember any stop here in Kingman during the Christmas season and how wonderful it feels to know that some people haven't forgotten what it feels like to bring so many people joy and hope during these times we now live in.
