Best Christmas Stocking Stuffers for Teenage Girls

Erin O'Connor
Stockings for children are always easy to fill with small toys and sweets but when it comes to teenagers, the task seems much more arduous and can leave many parents wondering if they should bother with stockings at this age. Here is a list of some stocking stuffing ideas that are both practical and enjoyable for all sorts of teenage girls.

1. Starting with the bottom of the stocking, my mother was notorious for packing in a few pairs of socks. The more comical and cute they are, the better, since those are always much more fun to receive than just a typical pair of white tube socks. Toe socks are always wonderful, as are stripes, fuzzy pairs and holiday themes.

2. A water thermos is a great present, as it's useful and saves money over buying bottled water and they can always be found with great designs and characters on them. A nice thermos can be brought everywhere and lasts for years.

3. A stocking is always a good place to leave a computer gadget or video game appliance, especially if your teen is tech savvy. Some good accessories include a USB flash drive for school, art skins for the Nintendo DS or Playstation Portable to protect the screen, or even new headphones for an iPod.

4. Slipping in a few toys from their childhood always brings back fond memories. Some entertaining gifts my mother used to add were yo-yos, silly puddy, bouncy balls, pogs, or a pack of playing cards.

5. A toothbrush! It sounds funny, I know, and your teen will probably roll their eyes, but the holidays are packed with sweet, sugary foods and while a toothbrush and floss are not exciting gifts, you and your children will be thankful when another year passes and they're cavity free.

6. If your teenager loves beauty accessories, chances are they like to buy their own makeup and wouldn't want you to pay for something they wouldn't wear. Instead, good options for your teen is makeup remover, face washes and fragrant body soaps. Small sizes are the best idea, as they fit in the stocking and the sample will be enough for your teen to decide if they like that particular brand.

7. A coin purse can be a nice gift. If your teenager always has loose change or a cluttered bag, a coin purse is something small enough to either slip into a larger purse or pocket, depending on your girl's preference. They come in all sorts of fantastic designs, from simple and elegant to cute and imported from Japan!

8. The top of the stocking is always dedicated to candy! Holiday chocolates, jellybeans and novelty gum are good choices. If your teen isn't big into sweets or cannot eat them, a great surprise to always see sticking out of the top is the smallest gift they have asked for, put into the stocking instead of being wrapped and placed under the tree.
