1. Venice
Ah, Venice. The city where eyes water upon the sight of gondolas drifting along the canals of the city. This city is particularly best for couples who are older (though young ones will love it as well) since the pace is slow, and the city can be seen at a leisurely stroll. A beautiful spot on which to share a romantic necking session, or to even bring out the proposal question, would be the Bridge of Sighs. Even the name is romantic, huh? Make sure to get lost amongst the narrow streets, and who knows what feelings will stir up when you've discovered a hidden street all to yourselves!
2. Paris
One of my friends went to Paris for an exchange program, and since then, would continue to yearn to return. That was five years ago. And just last year, he finally saved up enough money to get there. And since then, has fallen totally in love all over again. He will never (he declares) return to his previous home in the United States. Never had he seen a city full of bistros, of beautiful cafes. He has told me that seeing the Eiffel Tower with his own eyes has far overshadowed any of the pictures he had seen growing up. The Seine River is wholly romantic, along which lovers can be seen strolling hand-in-hand. Springtime, he has told me, is the perfect time to fall in love in this magical city, the City of Lights and Love.
3. Vienna, the capital of Austria, is filled with breathtaking gardens and palaces. Perhaps you could take a walk through a sparkling boulevard with your honey. If you are both musically inclined, then Vienna is just the place! Laden with operas and concerts, the two of you could have your pick. The palaces are astounding; check out the Hofburg Imperial Palace or the Belvedere Palace with your loved one and see what I mean.
4. Prague, the glorious city of the Czech Republic, is resplendent with its architecture, gardens and hidden cobbled alleys. Perhaps the ideal place to propose would be Charles Bridge, particularly at after you've watched the sun set, when evening begins to turn into nighttime. Walk along this, and you will find yourself in the Mala Strana. This city has been described as if it's been taken from a gothic fairytale, due to the castles that dot the land. Though most tourists go to Prague during the spring, summer and fall months, you and your honey can have the city to yourselves during the winter.
5. Lisbon, which is the capital of Portugal, is not only truly romantic, but also hides its deep history in its maze-like arrangement of streets. Belem, which is a well-known monastery, was built during the spice trade. One could ride through the city on a carriage, or view it from high up on a tower, namely, Santa Justa Elevador. Since it rarely snows, you and your lover can visit this pretty much any time of the year.
6. Nice
Located along the Mediterranean coast, one can enjoy beautiful weather, delicious food (particularly pastries) and gorgeous ambience. The weather between March and July is a bit unpredictable and windy; therefore, the best times to go would be late summer through about mid-November, during which it is lushly warm, with soothing sea breezes. The churches are quite lovely, such as the Saint-Jacques Church. The Place Massena is particularly gorgeous, and many people gather there for people-watching or to watch performances.
7. Florence
Art aficionados will love the Renaissance feel of the city. The museums (such as the Museo di Storia Naturale di Firenze) are top-notch, and one could spend a full day with his or her lover roaming aimlessly through the churches and towering cathedrals. The summers are humid, with little rain to appease the visitor. The best times to go with your love would be spring and fall. Lovers are often found in a romantic daze along the Arno River, upon which the city is set.
8. Budapest, which is located in Hungary, lies upon (or rather, is split by) the Danube river. An exceptionally affordable city, one could go shopping, or go to spas, or check out the cultural aspects of the city. The city is aglow with golden lights, which couples can gaze at blissfully along the Danube Promenade. Especially cool is the Buda Castle. This city is quite popular with young couples who are on the search for an unconventional lovespot.
