On any given Los Angeles weekday, The Coffee Table hosts a collection of hipster freelance artists banging out screenplays on their laptops, trading audition horror stories and/or making plans to rent a van for "The Tour." The Coffee Table offers a cozy, laid back refuge for LA's semi-employed entertainment industry hopefuls to be with their own kind. The Coffee Table in Silver Lake has a totally organic menu, serves breakfast until 3:00PM and even has a smoking patio out front for the heathens. The Coffee Table also boasts mosaic tabletops, tons of natural light and a rotating collection of local art.
Most dishes are priced from $7-10. Dinner entrees are $12-15.

The walls are plastered with posters of Che Guevara and the side room serves as a political organizing space. If you're interested in hanging out with the liberal-minded hipsters of Los Angeles, Café Tropical is the Silver Lake coffee shop for you. Café Tropical offers a full selection of revolutionary-minded espresso drinks, fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies, Cuban pastries and light dining fare.
Sandwiches and salads are priced at $4-7. Pastries range from $1-4.

Astro Family Restaurant & Coffee Shop has been serving up massive plates of classic diner fare in a indie-film atmosphere since 1982-WAY before it was cool. For $2.05, you can get a bottomless cup of coffee that stays hot all night long so you can pick your code names and plan your big caper. Astro offers one of the broadest coffee shop menu selections of any restaurant in Silver Lake, maybe in all of Los Angeles. This classic diner menu boasts serves of breakfasts, a mega-page of burgers and sandwiches, an Italian section, a Mexican section, a seafood section and even beer and wine. And of course, the classic coffee shop rotating refrigerated pie case. If you're in Silver Lake looking for a place to feed your face after a night of drunken clubbing or a place to sit quietly and sip coffee while brainstorming ideas for that new one-woman show, Astro Family Restaurant & Coffee Shop is a comfort food paradise.

Post a CommentI love the article! My son just moved to Oregon a couple of months ago. He visited L.A. for the first time on his way. He was never a coffee drinker, but has become one since moving to Oregon. He says they have great coffee there.
