The 2011 season provided college football fans with some great memories. Whether from the finals throes of the previous season or through the fall campaigns, there were more than enough moments worthy of being immortalized on film.
Here's a look at five of the best college football photos in 2011:
LaMichael James flying high
It was game that didn't turn out well for us Ducks fans, but it did provide some great memories. One of the best photos that showed the exuberance and excitement the season 2010 brought to Ducks fans was highlighted in this photo from the national title game against the Auburn Tigers. It shows James getting some air after scoring a touchdown in the second quarter.
Crazy in Stillwater
After the Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in their rivalry dubbed Bedlam Dec. 3, actual bedlam broke out when fans when just a bit overboard. They did the tear down the goalpost thing, which after 80 years you might think had become passe. In the process of storming the field to rip down the posts, at least 12 people were injured, and one of them had to be airlifted to a hospital. Look at the photo here.
President Obama with the right side at the Army-Navy Game
The President attended the game and tossed the coin to get things underway. After that, he went up into the stands and sat in the best seats in the house, on the Navy side. I say that as an ex-Navy guy. At halftime, the President did cross the field to visit with the Army. See the photo of the President and the midshipmen here.
Traveler turns 50
I'm a Ducks fan, but I have to admit the USC Trojans have the best mascot in college football. Several horses have had the honor of being Traveler, and there have also been riders. The tradition turned 50 years old in 2011. Here's a photo of Traveler, with Trojan riding on.
Future Heisman Trophy winner
Baylor's Robert Griffin III grabbed the prize this time around, but there's a true freshman out there who will be hoisting it within the next couple of years, as long as he stays healthy. If you haven't seen Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas play, you're missing a treat. Here's a pic of him in action.
Jeff Musall has been a fan of the Oregon Ducks since the '80s, and is excited about the Rose Bowl and what will be coming in 2012.
