Best Commercials of All-Time: Mean Joe Greene to E*Trade Baby

Commercials have their own audiences and the legions of commercial watchers around the globe have their own personal favorites. Commercials even have their own awards shows but the commercials that are best are not always the ones that garner awards.

The best commercials may even be a series of commercials. The Budweiser Clydesdale commercials with and without the Dalmatian are always classic commercials as well as the series of different Geico commercials. For those that wonder where all you insurance payments go look no further than the multiple series of advertising campaigns of Geico and Progressive.

No.10. Tabasco "Mosquito" 1998
A man sits on his porch eating a pizza while loading it up with Tabasco sauce. Along comes a mosquito that begins to suck blood from the mans leg as he watches. Seconds later the mosquito flys away and then blows up in a fireball. A creative and hilarious suprise ending that was an instant classic.

No.9. Reebok "Terry Tate Office Linebacker" 2003
The commercial "Terry Tate Office Linebacker" was created as a short film in 2000 and then was brought to life once again for the 2003 Super Bowl. Terry Tate, portrayed by Lester Speight, was an instant hit that spawned more commercials. Some of the best lines that emerged from the commercials: "The pain train is coming" and "You can't cut the cheese wherever you please."

No.8. E*Trade "Milkaholic Lindsay" 2008
E*Trade hit the mother lode with their E*Trade baby commercials but their instant classic with the E*Trade baby and his girlfriend was a quick hitting 30 second spot that left everyone in stitches. The girlfriend asks, "You didn't have that milkaholic Lindsay over did you?"

The E*Trade baby stops, "Lindsay?" Then baby Lindsay pops up, "Milka what???"

No.7. Snickers "Playing Like Betty White" 2010
Betty White is hilarious under any circumstance. In this commercial she is playing football on a muddy field when she is clobbered running a route. She comes back to the huddle and her teammate says, "Come on Mike. Your playing like Betty White out there." White retorts, "That's not what your girlfriend says."

Mike's girlfriend then gives him Snickers bar and he returns to normal. The commercial ends with Abe Vigoda getting sacked. This YouTube video will clear up any confusion for the few people who may not have seen this hilarious commercial.

No.6. Chevrolet "Ms. Evelyn" 2011
This Chevrolet ad stands out for it's creativity and it's strong marketing campaign in the new realm of advertising, the Internet. The action based "Ms. Evelyn" vignette was the most viewed commercial on the Internet according to the EMG Cartech website.

No.5. Nike "Michael Jordon Failure" 2006
For every success there are numerous failures along the way. This Michael Jordon commercial is about Jordon and is titled failure. It is an uplifting example that shows everyone, even one of the greatest athletes of all time has failed every day of his life but has used those failures to strive for and achieve success.

No.4. McDonalds "Gift Certificate for Santa" 1975
Another classic McDonalds spot but this is the most memorable. Check out the Yahoo video and see if the toddler giving his gift certificate to Santa is recognizable. It is none other than a four year old Corey Feldman.

No.3. Budweiser "Respect" 2002
The Budweiser Clydesdales are symbolic of the legendary brewers and this commercial was created as the nation was healing from the devastating loss of life that occurred on 9/11. The commercial shows the Clydesdales leaving their home and solemnly heading to New York City crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and then bowing their heads in "Respect" before the remains of the World Trade Center. A classic commercial that was heart felt and a perfectly simple statement that needed no explanation.

No.2. FedEx "Castaway" 2003
A hilarious alternative ending to the movie "Castaway." The FedEx employee, who was stranded on an island for five years vowed to deliver a package that survived with him in the crash. He delivers the package to the recipient and he asks,"By the way. What's in the package?"

The woman responds,"Oh not much. Just a satellite phone, GPS locater, fishing rod water purifier and some silly seeds."

No.1. Coke "Mean Joe Greene Jersey" 1979
An instant classic that has been satirized and brought back to life over the years. Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Mean Joe Greene was feared around the NFL which made the surprise ending a perfect formula for long term success. Of all Coke commercials this may have been the best of all time.
