Best Computer Deals Are from Dell and TigerDirect

The Best Computer and Accessory Deals Come from on Line Merchants

Ryan Kopf
These days, nearly everyone needs a computer. So much is happening on line that life can be made much easier with a computer and Internet access. You can buy movie tickets online, sell your junk, email friends, and do a plethora of other things. In case you're just getting started in the computing age, there are only a small handful of places that have the best computer deals, and most of them are not local.

The most prominent example, is Dell. They carry computers, ie PCs, for all different needs. Their cheapest brands, the Dell Dimensions, usually cost around $400 with free shipping & handling. This can get a computer capable of just about anything you might need if your new to the computer world. If you've used a computer only on a rare occasion, these will easily be more than you need. Don't bother spending extra money on any of the extras that you "might" need in a few years; they'll be both obsolete and less expensive by the time you ever need them.

If you need something more powerful, Dell has that too. The XPS, Extreme Performance System, models have most of what any computer user will ever need. The newer games, the faster programs, and the Windows Vista operating system all work well on these systems, and, agreeing with common sense, the more you pay the faster your computer will usually run when you buy a Dell computer.

Odds are, unfortunately, you don't have a Dell outlet nearby, and the only way you can get a Dell computer is through the Internet. If you don't have a computer already, this can be a challenge. Your best bet is to use the computers at your local library (if they don't have computers, chances are a nearby town's library does). Also, you're going to need a credit card or debit card (debit cards work if they have a VISA/Mastercard logo).

Dell, like others, is not without its complaints. While customers have often praised Dell's sales support and their processing speed, customer service rarely gets a good review. Dell customer service centers are in India, and sometimes can be hard to understand. Sometimes Dell has been known to confuse customer support issues, send out the wrong supplies, forget to send out technicians on time, and has been reported to have terrible service. But, for all the unhappy customers, there are still many more happy with Dell.

For the computer literate

Sometimes, though, you may already have a computer, and just need to upgrade it. For you, your greatest resource is TigerDirect.com. They carry nearly every computer part you could ever want, and at lower prices than even Wal-Mart, and especially less expensive than your local computer store or BestBuy. For example, a 320GB hard drive costs only $79.99 on TigerDirect, while WalMart.com asks for $159.98 for the same amount of space. For reference, a 320GB hard drive can hold over half a million high resolution pictures.

You may also want an extremely powerful computer that doesn't cost a couple grand. The Internet is a great resource to finding guides for this, which is too broad for this article to cover, but reports have been made of people buying parts separately and putting them together saved thousands.

Overall, buying computers is getting less expensive. Even those at Wal-Mart are fairly cost-effective (still not so much as those of Internet-based stores). For the best computer and computer accessory deals, stick with reputable Internet sellers, such as Dell and TigetDirect.

Good info and I built my computer from parts I bought at TigerDirect a few years ago. However, I've been helping a friend search for parts to build his own computer and we've found that NewEgg (www.newegg.com) is significantly cheaper on almost everything. And the fact that they have more advanced users who frequently comment on products gives a much greater product knowledge availability than TigerDirect currently has. You wrote a good article, though.
