Best Concealer for Blemishes

Concealing Without Clogging

Alexis Valentine
Recently I've been breaking out all along my forehead, something that hasn't happened since puberty. I went through my hell and came out of it with beautiful skin, now it's like being 15 all over again. I'm not sure if it's the weather, environment or maybe just my diet but while I try to figure that out I had to figure out how to cover it up too. I rarely ever wear makeup but when I do, I try to keep it minimal. I usually use Physicians Formula Mineral Wear concealer but found it wasn't working as well as it use to, and it was making my skin dry. So I went out searching for other concealers, the two I tried out recently are Almay's Clear Complexion and L'Oreal's True Match.

I've always been a fan of Almay products so picking up one of their concealers in my time of need was almost instinctive for me. Their Clear Complexion concealer cost about $8 and can be found anywhere that sells makeup.

I really liked that the applicator for this Almay concealer is sponge tipped because it makes applying it more precise, no excessive clumps of concealer in one spot. That can be a real mess. It didn't go on heavy, in fact it felt very light and airy on my skin. It didn't irritate, clog or inflamed my blemishes. I think it actually helped reduced the redness. I got it in light/medium. There was no hassle in trying to figure out what color my complexion is and I found it to do a very good job at concealer my dark circles, spots and blemishes. So far it's lived up to the Almay name and my expectations. Definitely a keeper.

The next concealer I tried was L'Oreal's True Match, which sells for about $6 and can also be found anywhere that sells makeup. I also got this in a light/medium to avoid having to figure out my color from over a dozen choices. This concealer comes with a brush tipped applicator which I didn't like because I always end up with too much product, even after scrapping some of it off on the tube, on my face. It gets really messy. It does a great job of covering up everything I want to cover up, but every time I use it my skin gets irritated and my blemishes seem to get worse. There were times where I even think that new ones popped up. It goes on a little heavy too. I could feel it on my skin and it felt really oily.

So between the two, Almay's Clear Complexion and L'Oreal's True Match, I'm sticking to Almay's because it gave me the results I wanted without feeling like I'm wearing heavy makeup. It cost a little more but well worth it.
