If there is one thing that Northeast PA is known for, it's corner bars, furniture stores and funeral homes. In all seriousness, there are dozens and dozens of neighborhood corner bars that have regulars coming back for more. Here is a look at some of the most popular corner bars in the area:

Hops & Barleys, Main Street, Luzerne

Hops & Barleys is by far one of the most popular nightlife spots in the Northeast Pennsylvania. Why? It's hard to tell what factor draws people to this establishment the most: the staff, the food or the beer selection. It's likely a combination of the three that has won Hops the honor of being the best corner bar by local magazine, The Weekender.

Hops & Barleys dubs itself, "A great restaurant that happens to have a really great bar." But while many families come in and out for lunch and dinner during the week, on the weekends Hops turns into a popular hangout for people of all ages. Aside from serving a full-menu of entrees and munchies until 1:00 a.m., "Hops" has had the same core staff for nearly a decade, meaning the regulars can count on the staff knowing their names and regular order. In fact, the staff and regulars take an annual Ocean City, Maryland vacation together.

Hops & Barley's has a several beers on taps, as well as a cooler full of malt beverages and bottled beer selections from around the globe. With some of the best prices around on food and drinks, Hops & Barleys is a great place to eat, drink or both.

Hop's menu includes everything from Surf-n-Turf to bar food favorites, such as their signature Buffalo Chicken Cheese fries, which some would call a heart attack on a plate. With a snack being so awesome as this, the taste outweighs the health risk! We're talking a huge pile of fries topped with chicken bits, lots of cheese and mild wing sauce.

Leary's Kork and Keg, Division Street, Kingston

Just across the river from Wilkes-Barre is Leary's Irish Kork and Keg. The bar is somewhat small, especially on nights where a popular band is taking the stage. However, being in a close-knot crowd is okay because Leary's draws a great, young crowd. It's one of the more popular places to hang out on the West Side. Leary's also offers a nice menu selection of eats.

Whiskey Business, 87 Wood Street, Wilkes-Barre

Whiskey's Monday and Wednesday half-price happy hours have forever been popular among local college students and residents. The bar also has a great juke box, and killer chicken wings. Whiskey Business has a few pool tables and dart boards as well. The inside is not as impressive as some other bars in the area, but it still has a great atmosphere thanks to a great staff and crowd.

Senunas', North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre

Senunas' is located right by King's College, making it a popular college bar. However, many young professionals and other business people in the area seem to stop by for happy hour after work. Senunas' also offers great food.

Outsiders, 650 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre

This two-level bar offers both the traditional corner bar atmosphere (downstairs) and a more modern bar upstairs, featuring a stage for live entertainment. Outsiders offers pizza and other food items, as well as a good selection of beer. Close by to Wilkes University, the bar has college nights and other great specials throughout the week. And for those who like to ride motorcycles, Tuesday is bike night.

Other great corner bars:

Wilkes-Barre: Frog Pond, Elmer Sudds, Beer Boys, Murray's (Slainte)
West Side Area: Flaherty's, Carm's
