Best Culinary Tours in New York

Steve Thompson
Most people don't travel to New York exclusively to eat, but it's certainly a beneficial side bonus. There are thousands of restaurants in New York City, and thousands more located in other areas of the state, where the finest cuisine and most delicious drinks are served. You can find everything from Latin to Greek foods, and culinary tours are the best way to experience the broadest array of restaurants in New York.

Most of the culinary tours in this state are centralized in NYC, but many take participants into surrounding areas to experience the restaurants and cafes in more suburban and rural areas. Nosh Walks, for example, is a popular source of culinary tours, and is a magazine that offers guided tours of restaurants in particular neighborhoods. Queens, Brooklyn, Harlem, Staten Island - you can go anywhere with Nosh Tours, and cost $35 per person ($32 for NoshNews subscribers). Each tour lasts between three and four hours, and lunch is frequently the closing attraction.

Or, if you prefer something slightly more culturally-oriented, Epiculinary offers "Tastes of New York", which consists of guided culinary tours and cooking classes based on the culture of New York. Their primary focus is Greenwich Village, and the entire event lasts four days, most of which is spent at the Washington Square Hotel. The fee per person of $995 includes three nights in the hotel, hands-on cooking lessons before dinner, 3-hour culinary tours of Greenwich Village and Chelsea Market, and a closing brunch on Sunday morning.

You might also like the Foods of New York culinary tours, which are intended either for particular boroughs or for certain types of food. For example, one of their most popular tours includes tastings at some of the trendiest and highest-rated sushi bars in the city, while another provides a guided look at the meatpacking district.
