Best Cupcakes in New York City

Who has the best cupcakes in New York? Who cares, you ask? Well, cupcakes are a great snack and a nice change from doughnuts if it is your duty to bring food in for a business meeting or after-school activity.

Magnolia Bakery arguably-okay, undoubtedly-has the best cupcakes in New York. (Disclaimer: I don't work there nor have they paid me to write this. Not even compensated me with any cupcakes.)

Magnolia first came to fame after being featured on TV's Sex and the City, but it is now a destination for tourists and regular New Yorkers alike.

The bakery is located at 401 Bleecker Street, in the West Village. If it is a nice day out, you may have to wait in line for twenty minutes before even getting to the counter. The line often snakes outside of the little bakery and around the corner.

For this reason, I recommend going when it is cold outside or raining. You pick your own cupcakes from a table and then pay for them at the counter-where you can order "add-ons" such as a glass of milk.

For large orders, you may want to call them in advance to give a heads up. (212) 462-2572 is their listed phone number.

They also have a newer location near Rockefeller Center at 1241 Avenue of the Americas if you work at a media company in that area or if your hotel is nearby.

All of the cupcakes are "good", but I personally recommend the vanilla frosted vanilla cupcakes. You can't go wrong with those-although I should probably warn you, they are some of the richest cupcakes you will ever have. One is usually more than enough. Two and you will feel guilty enough to head directly to the gym.
