Best of the Decade 2010 New Year's Eve Party Songs: Top Songs of 2000

Aida Ekberg
If you're looking for a great way to end 2009 and bring in 2010, don't just celebrate the end of 2009 on New Year's Eve; celebrate the end of the decade by playing the best songs of the past decade at your 2010 New Year's Eve party. I'm counting down some of the best songs of the past decade that would be perfect for playing at a New Year's Eve party, starting with the best songs from 2000. So in celebration of New Year's Eve 2010, enjoy reminiscing about the past ten years with the songs we loved from 2000, and a few songs that we now can't believe were ever popular (but you've still got to play them at your 2010 New Year's Eve party so that everyone can have a good laugh at the way we were):

'Smooth' by Santana Featuring Rob Thomas - This is one of the best songs for playing at your 2010 New Year's Eve party to get rid of that winter chill. Unlikely pair Rob Thomas of angsty band 'Matchbox 20' and renowned Latino guitarist Carlos Santana united in one of the strangest musical collaborations ever, but what sweet music the two made together. This is one of my all-time favorite songs of the decade, and a must-have on your 2010 New Year's Eve party list to get everyone on the dance floor and get things started smoothly.

'Thong Song' by Sisqo - Why not bring in the New Year by playing one of the most popular songs about one of the most popular clothing items of the past decade? Everyone at your 2010 New Year's Eve party will have a good laugh at this silly but infectious ode to no panty lines, and they'll still get out on the dance floor to move and groove to one of the songs of 2000 with the most ingenious lyrics ("she had dumps like a truck truck truck...")

'Shake it Fast' by Mystikal - And for another of the best dance songs of 2000 for your 2010 New Year's Eve party, here's another ode to women's backsides. I've got the cleaner version of my generation's 'Baby Got Back' listed here, but feel free to get the naughtier versions of any of these naughty dance songs for your 2010 New Year's Eve party.

'Try Again' by Aaliyah - In this past decade, we were lucky enough to experience many amazing sweet and sexy dance songs by Aaliyah, but in the past decade, we also lost this amazing artist. So celebrate her life with one of her best songs that has a great theme for your 2010 New Year's Eve party: dusting yourself off and trying again.

'Jumpin Jumpin' by Destiny's Child - Before Beyonce was a single lady, she and the other members of 'Destiny's Child' were creating some of the most popular dance songs of the beginning of the decade. And to keep your 2010 New Year's Eve party jumpin', this is one of the songs of 2000 that needs to jump onto your party playlist.

'The Next Episode' by Dr. Dre Featuring Snoop Dogg - And here's another of the best songs of 2000 that actually has a good theme for a New Year's Eve party: moving on to next episode of 2010. This cool and laid back tune was one of my favorite songs for chillin' out to in 2000, and there's just no way you can bring in a New Year without a little Snoop Dogg.

'Oops!... I Did It Again' by Britney Spears - I couldn't resist putting a few bubble gum pop songs from 2000 on this list, just to give your 2010 New Year's Eve party guests a good laugh. Plus it's always great to remember the days when Britney Spears was having to try and convince us that she wasn't that innocent by dancing around in skin-tight red leather jumpsuits. Was it one of the most annoying songs of 2000? Yes, but you've still got to play it at your 2010 New Year's Even party to celebrate one of the biggest pop stars of the past decade.

'Big Pimpin' by Jay-Z Featuring UGK - I love the exotic-sounding music in one of the many songs of 2000 about the pimpin' lifestyle, and it is definitely one of the best party songs of the past decade. It's got a slow but sultry and sexy beat that makes it one of the best dance songs of the decade, and the guys trying to be big pimpin' at your 2010 New Year's Eve party will appreciate it for getting all the ladies out on the dance floor.

'(Hot S**T) Country Grammar' by Nelly - Nelly had some of the most fun, upbeat dance songs of the decade, but this one is probably his best. It's got the fun sound of some of those little ditties and chants we sang when we were younger, making this countrified rap one of the most unique songs of 2000. And it's another of the songs for your 2010 New Year's Eve party playlist that no one will be able to resist dancing to.

'Bye Bye Bye' by 'N Sync - And here's another of the cheesy pop songs of 2000 (you know you were completely obsessed with 'N Sync back in the day!) Say "bye bye bye" to the old year and hello to 2010 with one of the songs on this list that might make your 2010 New Year's Eve party guests groan (but they'll all secret love it, and might even bust out some of their best boy band dance moves).

So from the best dance songs of the beginning of the millennium to some you've got to play just for posterity's sake, get your 2010 New Year's Eve party started by playing some of the best songs that got the decade started.
